WTB San Diego: XJ Radiator

Took the Jeep up to Santa Rosa mtn today (I'm actually sending this from the top of the mountain) and found that it gets VERY hot over time. Mostly during highway driving. Seems to be an airflow though the rad issue at highway speeds.

Anyone have a good radiator laying around they want to get rid of? I also found silt in the filler neck. I wonder how deep it is at the bottom of the radiator? Possibly blocking some of the tubes?

Thanks for any help
Josh

Pull your thermostat out, bolt the housing back on, remove upper and lower radiator hoses, and use a water hose to push all the gunk out. Also, remove the radiator and back-flush in the same manner. A couple hours will work wonders for you. After you're done, throw a new T-stat (good quality "OEM" temp) and a new radiator cap on. Good luck!

I actually picked up a new T-Stat and Rad cap today. Going to do what you suggest down at the hobby shop on Tuesday morning. Hopefully will get her all fixed up that way. I pulled the electric fan while I was on Santa Rosa mountain and the radiator looks brand new. Found a receipt under the passenger seat while messing with some other stuff and it seems as though the rad was replaced about 6 months ago by the previous owner.

So delving in a little deeper to see what's causing the issue. Seems like lack of flow either from the water side or the air side. I took it to the hobby shop today and steam/pressure washed the a/c condenser and radiator. Not a whole lot came out of there but water was blowing straight though the assy into engine bay so they don't seemed to be clogged from an air flow point of view.

If his rad is only 6 months old i would say it was his clutch fan or the elec not kicking in.It could also be the PO didn't have it flushed when he install it and now the new rad is full of crap.
I run all stock systems in my jeeps and i don't over heat at all, even running my AC when out playing in the summer.
Palm Springs CA stays hot( 100 or more) 90% of the summer.Heck we even run up to JV during the summer.

I shot the rad with an IR thermo. Looks like it's blocked up towards the bottom. I just ordered a spectra premium from Amazon it should be here mon or tuesday and I'll drop it in. Found a bunch of garbage when flushing the block. Looks like a radiator hose deteriorated at some point in time and came apart into the cooling jackets. Should be cleaned out now but that might be what's blocking the old radiator.

I looked at the tags on the rad and it's got chryco markings on it. So unless that was a OEM chryco replacement the PO never actually swapped it out. The reciept I found didn't specify what the radiator was for so it could have been for a different vehicle.

Cross flow radiators will plug from the bottom up. When you flush it, and refill it use only distilled water and anti-freeze. You can get the premix but I usually pick up the non 50/50 and a gallon of distilled.
