I got my rebuilt trans installed but now It wont shift out of 4th when on auto mode, using my rail shifter I got all the gears. So I think I need to swap the TCU...

It is a 90 XJ with AW4... Anyone have one laying around?

Are you sure the kickdown cable is adjusted right max?

99% sure, but why would that cause it to not start in 1st?

It shifts fine with I am using my RA Designs rail shifter, but when I have it on TCU mode and put it in D it trys to start in 3rd. The wiring is good, or else my rail shifter would not be working.

I got a new TPS arriving my AZ in a little so ill go swap it out first and maybe that is it.

I tested the TCU fuse and it is good, it is getting 12V...

have you tested the solenoids to make all of them have the correct ohm readings? i am pretty sure i have a TCU from an 87 in my shop. i saved it as a spare for my 89. you are more than welcome to try it but i am no way close to LA.

Yea, I just had the trans rebuilt. All the solenoids tested good.

SO installed a new TPS, and got 0 reference voltage, traced the wires, unplugged the tcu and verified 5 v there and what do you know I had TPS voltage.

Adjusted it to .831 and it starts in 1st gear and I have TC lock... so I am guessing the TCU harness was just not making a good connection.

very cool, glad it all worked out. and yes i have had bad connections many times were all was needed is an unplug and re-plug. even with a cleaned up connector and coated in dielectric grease.
