Won't start...

LOL....unfortunately I haven't. I haven't been able to put the time into it that I'd like/need to.

It's probably going to take alot of time to find out the direct cause, being that it has shown to impossible to reproduce when I want to.

I may just start replacing parts here. Winter is coming, and hopefully our 'extra' car will sell here soon.

OK, so I started this post and didn't really have the time to dedicate to suggestions. On the other hand, I have yet to have any sort of reproducible way to get the rig started after it dies.

So I've been taking it to work here and there taking the chance of have to leave it on the side of the road if I couldn't get it started when it died. Now 3 times it has died, (don't ask me how I got to this) but by rocking the car forward and back a little (while in park of course) allowed it to start again. Could this be a CPS thing? Would rocking the car forward and back move the crank a little? I'm about to just replace it anyway and at least I'll have the peace of mind that it's not causing the problem.

Look I know it's not much, but i'm comfortable saying that this is something that can be reproduced once it dies, so it's something

You think a problem with that would cause the motor to die while just driving down the road?

Hmmmm, well I guess it can't hurt to pull it and clean it. I'll check my schematics later today.

Hate to revive an old thread, but I needed some ideas to check on my Jeep that is currently left out on the side of an ice covered road from when she died on me.

What XJTodd is describing sounds exactly like what happend to me once, turned out to be two things. My vaccum lines and my TPS. Replace your TPS, I bet it'll work.

Thanks for reviving it, actually...it's a goto nudge to get my act together. I've driven it a few time of late, and it HAS died several times. Each time it dies, I've noticed that if I crank it over right away (Quick throw it in neutral, and do it before I come to a stop) it will fire back up right away. If I let it come to a stop, I throw it in park, get out, grab the front bumper and rock it forward and back a few times, and it will start right up!

I know that's a band-aid solution, and what I really need to figure out why it's dying in the first place. But I was thinking about the TPS just the other day. It seems like the time ti dies is when I'm jsut feathering the gas, cruising along, not stepping on it hard, of from a dead stop, but while just bearly on the throttle enough to keep you going at a constant speed.

I guess I'll go get a TPS and a CPS later today, and jsut plan on doing them both this weekend anyway. I'll post back up when I get soem results.

No problem and good luck. I still have no idea as to whats wrong with my Jeep, its icy and snowy in Washington and we're expecting another 4-6"s tonight! (This is a very rare cold storm for us) so I need to get my rig towed home...I'd rather drive my Jeep then front wheel drive van in this crap!

OK...So I wussed out. Actually it was more of a time crunch thing being we sold our third vehicle. But in the interest of time's sake I wheeled the rig over to the stealership to have a look. I hadn't gotten time to do what I had planed and just replace the sensors I (we) had assumed was the issue, but I needed a vehicle ASAP. I was actually looking forward to the fact that I got an CEL last week.

Either way, it was as expected, the CPS/CPS....meaning the CEL code that it throws for that throws it for both the Crankchaft Positions Sensor AND the Camshaft Position Sensor. As that DOES make sense, I never thought about the Camshaft one. Either way, I'm going to have them replace them both anyway just to be sure.

It also turns out the speedo issue is just coincidence. They found a small scuff in the wire for the speed sensor that I must not have noticed. They wanted $160 to fix the wire!!! Yeah, I passed on that one.....PUUULEASE! Any monkey can fix a wire.

So, thread closed. Yeah, I feel like a weenie for not dedicating enough time to it, but hey, not more having to think about or deal with it.
