First off, this is not a "oh I wish I had better MPG" thread.
For a long time I was running bigger tires and high gears. Over the summer I put on 33s and 4.88s. I was happy to bring my MPG up. Stock I could run 18s. With the bigger tires I was in the 14s. After regearing that brought it to 16. Haven't looked at my computer in a while but when I did I was down to 13.4 MPG! I keep tabs, I know what my MPG has been.
So I replaced air filter, did my plugs even though they were not bad, ran a can of BG44K through it, and tried to stay out of the throttle. ZERO change, 13.4! The thing is, my engine runs good. It's a 2000 with 130K and I don't have , or have had any problems. I have a cold start issue, but I've always had that. (think it's the fuel pump check valve)
So what could cause such a drop in MPG and still have my engine running smooth? As far as I know, none of my sensors have ever been replaced. I have also been meaning to lift my valve cover. They seem to be making a bit of noise. But the MPG thing has happened sort of all of a sudden. Any suggestions??? Thanks
