Pure Epic from Pre running at the Ecors Alabama Race

Maybe some duct tape too :dunno:

Couple drops of super glue and she'll be all set.

But only the good kind...can't trust the store brand crap!

They haven't laid out the course for this year yet, but last year I wasn't able to make it. Supposedly they ran some areas that are not open for riding, everything I have heard was insane.

IronMan4x4fab is the A Class sponsor for the entire series.

Heres a video from 4x4cross with bits and pieces of last years windrock race.

Ive never been to windrock, so this year will be my first time, but from what I heard from the racers it was pretty insane and the trails were crazy hard after the rain the night b4 the race

Any information you need can be found here: http://www.ecors.com/

Or at the ECORS official forum, http://www.nc4x4.com/forum/index.php?forums/ecors.77/

Tyler the ECORS is awesome. They are like a mini hammers kinda thing. Go fast and beat the shit out of it! Most DNF.

wow.

JB weld should get ya home ;)

Hey guys. :) Glad to see my carnage on :NAXJA:! Thanks Eric!! lol For the record, a D30 is not a good racing axle.... nor is it a good rock crawling axle. It's a GREAT casual trail rig axle for something 33s and under. But......with the time and cash I have available to work with, it's all I can run for the time being.

So, I swapped the D30 from my old trail rig into the race rig. I built this D30 over the course of 4 years and it holds up to 38s rather well, minus the occasional snapped chromo shaft. (2 snapped shafts, 1 twisted over the course of 2 years.) Rather than finding a D44 and spending the extra coin to beef it up and regear it, I decided to go the cheaper route and swap in what I had available. As I said before, a D30 is not a good racing axle, but with my budget, it's what I have to work with for now. :) (Next year, I hope to rework the front axle and swap in a new engine with some go-fast parts.) Universal Automotive in Concord, NC sponsors me for my gear swaps and some other little odds and ends. The D30 from the trail rig was geared 4.56 so I had them regear it to 4.88 to match my rear. While doing that, I also had them bend some 1.75x120 DOM and weld it to the bottom of the axle. Once they finished up the axle, I gusseted the lower truss with some 1/4". In the essence of time, I reused the adjustable track bar off the trail rig, but converted it to 3/4" heim at the track bar mount on the body. (was a poly bushing before) It is 7/8" heim at the axle mount. I plan to have Ironman4x4fab.com make me a new track bar with 7/8" heims at both sides.

So here's the specs and a pic of the replacement D30.

D30 HP from 91 XJ:
- WJ knuckle swap with sport trac rotors
- 1.75x120 DOM adjustable track bar (7/8" heim at axle, 3/4" heim at body)
- 1.75x120 DOM tie rods with 3/4" heims, OTK
- Rubicon Express track bar bracket
- MudPro LCA mounts
- Custom shock mounts made from 1/4" plate. (Ironman4x4Fab.com)
- Upper truss from diff to pass UCA mount
- Inner Cs gusseted with 3/16" plate
- Lower truss 1.75x120 DOM with 1/4" gussets, welded to inner C's and diff
- Pass UCA mounted boxed in with 1/4" plate (not pictured, did this after it install)
- ARB (RD100)
- Nitro 4.88 gears
- Nitro chromoly shafts
- Nitro Excalibur u-joints
- Raybestos Professional ball joints (A little stronger than stock, but not much!)
- US Alloy axle tube seals for the hell of it...
- Axle tubes welded to diff
- Bump pucks are delrin and are removable. (Bolt-in)
- SOLID diff cover

Here's a pic of the axle in action when it was pink and under the trail rig. :)

Way to be Chris, how did she do in D town this past weekend?

Ive spectated ECORS since it started as I could, and my only defense was that the Dana 30's have had good luck, surely they are not the ideal axle, but for parts availability, cost, etc... its aint bad.

Did hate to hear about you parting the red cherokee.

She did great in Dtown! I feel certain I would have done even better had I not been fighting brake issues since before Auburn. There's a gremlin in my brake system somewhere. In summary, I've replaced every single component in the brake system and it still has issues. Anyway, on lap 3 (or maybe it was 4??) the right front caliper came unbolted and destroy a rim and blew the tire off. We changed the tire and removed the caliper on the course then limped it back to the pits. I had to put it in 4-low in order to slow it down since I couldn't press the brakes. :D In the pits, we blocked off the brake line. I finished the rest of the race on 3 brakes. Left hand turns were a piece of cake, but stopping in a straight line was a whole new level! lol

A D30 used to be more than adequate for ECORS. However, with this season, the courses are introducing a lot more jumps and some rougher terrain. The D30 in its stock form just simply can't hold up to the abuse. For the amount of coin it costs to make the D30 hold up to the course, you might as well swap in a more worthy axle. A d44 seems ideal, even over a d60. A d60 would be far too heavy and wide.

Meh, the red cherokee lived its life. The body is trashed. It's time to build a nice mild trail rig. I miss having A/C on the trail. :)

I get that, my 97 had AC for the first few trips, compressor has since died and will be replaced shortly.

I don't think the courses have been the problem as much as competition, like the drivers, everyone is spending much more money on go fast suspension and goodies then in the past, and everyone is hauling ass, where in the past you may have slowed down for a whoop, you now hit the gas and try to fly over, let the bumps do the work lol
