For background, I live, work, and Play in Houston, Texas. The 2000 Jeep Cherokee (XJ) that I purchaced the the BullBar for is not extensivly modified, nor has ever been any any off road competition. I have owned the jeep fore the last 16K miles, and the BullBar for the last 15K. The BullBar is just about a year old. The Jeep is a daily driver, and my sole mode of transportation except for the two good legs that god gave me.
0) the product has an overall bad design, offering little to no function.
1)600 product + 150 shipping = enough money to buy a nice MIG setup.
2) The BullBar has a low ground clearance, with the lower contact edge lacking any reinforcement. The construction in this manner does not allow for safe use of a Hi-Lift jack directly to the bumper.
3) The Bar provides for a winch mount that is accessible from the bottom of the bumper.
Where is the logic? This is supposed to be a HEAVYDUTY bumper. The protection should be toward the surface that the vehicle travels upon, and NOT up toward the sky protecting the vehicle from flying insects.
4) The lack of protection from below accelerates weathering and decomposition to a winch. The recommended Warn winch quickly loses its coating under the abusive conditions. It is the first part of the Jeep to be submerged in mud. The winch slowly gets filled with dirt, thus wearing the winches gears unnecessarily. Also, the LACK OF PROTECTION FROM BELOW leave the winch exposed to crippling hazards on the trail.
5) The bar provides no protection for the winch Fairlead. The upper “lip” that retains the 2 long bolts retaining the vertical rollers easily becomes bent inward. This condition pinches the roller, hindering or preventing any rolling. The roller is then destroyed when load is placed upon it, as the wire rope becomes a saw under the loaded operation.
My conclusion is that the ARB Bullbar is an over advertised, over rated, over priced, badly designed product destine to become a twisted heap of metal owned by whoever dare test it in any moderate or harsh off road use. I personally would not recommend the BullBar to any person, anywhere. Additionally, if the BullBar lives up to its name so poorly, how could any person ever consider purchasing any other ARB product, especially Air Lockers?
