Mine is a '97 GMC K2500 6.5, it has a full floating 14 bolt rear w/ 3.73 gears, 4L80E tranny, NV241 t-case. I'm happy with it: 9-passenger seating, dual heat & AC, good stereo. I feel very safe towing with it, but always keep in mind it is a heavy vehicle that requires more stopping distance than a stock XJ. The steering is very responsive and the turning radius surprisingly tight, and I average about 16-17 mpg with mixed highway and city driving. It's not as powerful as the modern diesel trucks, but the basic design of the engine is from the early 80's so I don't ask unrealistic performance from it. It has 173k miles on it now, and sees many road trips per year on top of daily commuting and although it has cost me a decent amount of money in upkeep it has never left me stranded. Being the 3/4 ton with the diesel it isn't as comfortable in the ride or NVH areas as a 1/2 ton gasser would be. The one you are looking at would have a 4L60E and a 10-bolt rear. I've had to replace the alternator, AC compressor and condensor, brakes, tires, exhaust, and some diesel specific items (vacuum pump, injection pump under warranty, glow plugs, accelerator pedal.)
