who stood in line for an xbox 360 last night?

see i dont agree with you about your comp being better. i know a bunch of people that work at best buy and they say the 360 is more powerful then most comps out now. and since the 360 is basically dedicated to one or two things. it'll be a lot better then a comp that has many things to do with its processor. i didnt wait in line i put one on reserve a while ago so i just had to go pick mine up.
So you think that people at Best Buy really know more about computers than others? Do they need any prior qualifications, or training in hardware development to get a job as a salesperson? I really doubt it. The 360 is a pc, plain and simple, it even stands like a pc does, has a HD, can be hacked to run windows or linux, like the xbox and yes, it only has to handle one video game at a time, but so does a PC.... just turn off the other programs, run the game of choice, and you should be running the same type of graphics that the XBOX 360 runs, which isn't running that many polygons to begin with. Yes the graphics are impressive, but not much more than PC graphics at the moment.

Now your agreeing with me...lol. All I am saying is the 360 could have been WAY WAY WAY better. But its not. Heck I was just reading up on the specs for the PS3. Its practically a supercomputer. Heck it was rated like 385 or something like that in the top 500 supercomputers in the world. The 360 is just a PC that anybody could really build. All you would need is the drive and OS that the 360 runs its games on.

What kills me is, some of you are saying your LAPTOP does better, or your PC does better, but it DOESNT. Fact is, the 360 is the best graphix gamer on the market right now, and theres no PC (unless it was recently, like the last 60 days, built, specifically for gaming) thats gonna give you what the 360 does. Really, you have to see it in action.

That is all...

lol I have seen it in action. Was playing games down at the local game crazy on it. And im sorry...my laptop does better graphics than the 360. Its not just about the video card. Its also the processor and the memory and a few other things that the 360 lacks greatly in.

apples and oranges.

your laptop = $$$$. xbox = $300. if it is even comparable at all (which i'm 100% sure it is...), sounds like it's a pretty damn good deal to me.

Plenty of 360's around here. They have been available for a while. A kid I work with bought one while I was with him two weeks ago. Why are they only being released down there now? And what's this crap about huge ebay auctions? Aren't they plentiful down there too? Weird. You won't catch me buying one, they just don't have the game support that Sony does. What is it now? 5 PS2 games for every Xbox game? The lack of back-compatibility is gonna kill them in the long run too...

I play COD2 and Q4 at 16x12 on my 21" DVI flat panel with an AGP Radeon X850XT-PE and when I saw the 360 Demo units I saw nothing that made me sit back and say wow. While my computer is no slouch it is not what I consider top of the line anymore.

Couple this with the fact that the VAST majority of 360 owners will probably NEVER use it in HD mode on a HD TV at all and it's easy to see why there is such a mixed bag of responses.

My take is IF you have a QUALITY HD large display in place, or are planning on investing in one (less than 1 years time), the 360 is a very good deal. IF you have a standard TV with no plans of changing/upgrading in the near future, I believe the purchaser will be underwhelmed by the product. UNLESS you are big in the sport franchise games, where the PC really doesn't even rate unless it's golf.

A gal my wife works with said her husband took this week off work. The first night he stood in line to get his new video game. Then the rest of the week is so he can play his game. He spent 600 bones. I don't get it but that's why I don't want one. What ever makes ya happy.

Yeah...except if he's taking off a week of work to play games, I don't think he's planning on turnin' it for coin.

They are.

Pay attention! :D
Umm...yeah...like what 1/10 of thier games are compatible with the 360...the rest you would be lucky to be able to download a patch to make the game work. And thats assuming you have an internet connection for that kind of thing which the vast majority of console gamers dont still. I checked the game compatibility list and I had 3 out of 25 games that were compatible with the 360.

The computing world doesn't care about vector processors. Every now and then a supercomputer made of one shows up on the list because someone found something useful for it.
The cell is just another processor with multiple execution units.

And while marketing speak describes the chip as a "supercomputer" - it remains significantly slower than the slowest computer on the list of the world's top 500 supercomputers.

Forget the top500 list. Nobody cares.

OKOKOKOKOKOK !!!!!

Just to make it clear where i stand...
1st person shooters rule!
2nd they can only truely be played on a PC PCPCPCPCPCPCPCPCPCPCP!!!!!!

No not a mac READ = POS [hardware]
And absolutly not on a CONSOLE !!!! NASTY !!!!

For me it has alot to do with the controller...

okok so here it is .. we are talking about hit box's within the game, the "target area" around the opposing guys.. with a PC they are much smaller [in general] due to the ability to really get greater dexterity with a MOUSE.. try that with a console controller! NOT!!! In other words the hit boxes in a console version of say counter strike or far cry are going to be larger to accomidate the different controllers innate dexterity index...

OKOK more a little history... been in computers for 10 years building them for 9 and playing FPS and others the whole time + pack man blah blah.. was playing 2nd rev. of counter strike.. bought Half Life 1 off the shelves when it 1st came out... anyways.. this is how i see it=

Console games are good for certain games.. skater games... driving games.. role playing is good.. arcade games.. that kind of stuff so it certainly has its place...[ i dont have one] also not everyone is into there computers or even likes them enough..

But most poeple like playing games.. may be in the park playing rugby or maybe lazing on the couch playing the 500$ xbox package that the rents got them...

Also another view that NON OF YOU HAVE LISTED........

So when things settle down price wise for the new xbox it will likly be at or lower than a high end video card BY IT SELF case in point=
FROM NEWEGG.COM [online discount not best buy or compusa]
video card
ATI 100-435601 Radeon X850XT PE 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 VIVO AGP 4X/8X Video Card - Retail = $409

so lets see. $409 for JUST THE VIDEO CARD ALONE.....
or

Get a whole computer gaming system that you can , listen to music, watch movies, look at pics, listen mp3, save data too and play a list of games in HD and regular with out actually running windows.....
do you see whats going on here...

its cheaper in a way..

my video game system - subtract the displays was $2500 from newegg built by me...

Also, the xbox 360 isnt actually running windows so therefore its 700 meg of RAM is shared across the system for games only. The video also uses the RAM [along with a precach of 8-10 meg] so it is relativly fast because is doesnt have to carry all the extra wieght of other apps and system tray crap in the backround, still rendering the windows VB environemtn etc... ....and add to that GAMES "APPLICATIONS" THAT ARE WRITTEN TO ONLY RUN ON IT and run by themselves.. that is HUGE it doesnt matter what laptop or desktop or XEON crap you have, its all running about 30% full power with backround stuff all the time...

OK so my point is this.. PC games rule but they are also A WHOLE OTHER LEVEL.. {a higher one both in treu skill and another in expense]

XBOX and other console games are also very good for certain games..
the price point bieng the real devider.... you can rent console game too, not PC. Although pc games go down in price alot faster then console games do...

All the while the games will get better for both sets of hardware sending us all in the stone age with our 400$ video whatever we haves...
sigh...
GAME ON!

BTW sorry for the long post...
