Where do you guys get your gears?

I am getting ready to do a gear change and I need to pick up some gears and master rebuild kits. A friend of mine works at a shop and says he can help me out with getting them set up but I need to get the gears myself. Any of you know of a place I can get a killer deal on some gears and master rebuild kits? I am swapping in a rear XJ 44 and retaining the stock front dana 30 in my 97. I am not really partial to any brand but I will not buy G2 I have heard way too many stories of their stuff being junk and my buddy even got their stuff and said its trash and didn't even come with all the right parts. A local shop here turns away customers asking for G2 products or asking to have G2 products installed because of their poor experience with them so I am just not going to take the risk here.

Any help from you guys to point me in the right direction and get me setup with the right parts at the best price will really help me out on my tight budget.

East coast gear supply and nitro gears seem to hold up good

Just curious...are you going from a D35 to D44 or C8.25 to D44?

I've heard that Randy's (ringandpinion.com) has some good stuff as well.

Thanks I'll look them up and see what their prices are!

I am going from a C8.25 to a D44. Yah I know Randy's is good but I am trying to see if there are any other places out there that might be selling stuff for a lower price. Just trying to shop around and get this whole ordeal to be as affordable as possible.

What are you doing with the 8.25?

Is it LP or HP? I've been looking for a cheap/free 8.25 (as long as it's 3.55) to swap my D35 for. You're local, so that's a huge plus.

All 8.25's are LP, the only differences in them are; 91-96=27 spline(some 96's are 29 spline), 97-01=29 spline. On the WK/XK, the 8.25 is a "full floater" and 29 spline. some are locked from the factory with a E-slip style locker. I can tell you that the 8.25 handles all a 380hp 5.7 HEMI can give it in the WK/XK line-up! Keep in mind the power is being split between the front and rear full time but its still impressive.

I,ve been happy with Yukon Gears from Randy,s R&P .Over 100,000 miles and still quiet.Went with the whole package=gears, bearings ect.
In a D30 and D44

Ah, that's what I meant! I don't know why I said LP or HP, definitely meant 27 or 29 spline. Thanks for the info!

Mine is a 97 so it is the 29 spline. All Chrysler 8.25 axles that came in Jeep Cherokees from 96 and on were 29 spline. I will be glad to sell it to you if you are interested but I am going to tell you right now that this axle has some age on it and 219,000 miles on it as of right now. It needs a wheel cylinder in the passenger side drum brake. It does have the TracLoc limited slip differential in it but who knows how good it is now with that many miles on the clutch packs. But like I said if you want it I will be glad to sell it to you once I have it pulled out.

Anyone have any experience with or know of the reputation of Motive gears? The seem to be more affordable that Yukon (which I wish I could get).

RWKhaus supply has been good to me

I bought my first set form Randy's and ran Yukon's with no issues on the gears. My second set is in the heep now and was gotten from Chase at ECGS. I was not aware of RWKhaus until after I bought mine but next time I will give him a shot at my business.

RWKhaus actually has a pretty good price I added it all up on their site and for thick gears and master rebuild kits altogether is $566 for Yukon gears. I have seen that they are on NAXJA so do they give discounts to the community? I figure if he does it's only for red letters but if it's a significant enough discount then I might just finally make the change haha

I believe it is for us red letter guys. I doubt it's more then 10%. Yea Ihave heard he has good prices. However, I have never ordered from him. I don't think.

Before ordering from RWKHaus, please read this - http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1075952

My only warning is he advertises Yukon but also sells USA Standard Gear. One is cheaper than the other so if you expect to get Yukon, you better make sure he knows that and prices them accordingly.

You know...

One of your very own sells gears too... :wave1:

And Rock Solid Off Road is now accepting Credit Cards!!!

I used to buy Genuine G2 gears, but I don't get that good of a deal on them any more so I have started using and selling A LOT of Nitro stuff. I have been extremely satisfied with every set I have installed, set up has always been smooth and never had any whine.

I won't sell Yukon gears even if it meant I'd go out of business. I have had a lot of bad luck with them.

Did not know you sold them too! I like my Nitro's in my 60's so far.
