Wheels

I am looking for some wheel ideas. I was going to put Rock Crawlers on my rig, but gave it some thought and don't want to go with a steel wheel. Can you guys give a newbie some ideas about wheels? Any links or pix would be great, cuz I really can't seem to find any wheels I like. If someone knows of a wheel that is alum and black that would be even better. I am blacking out all my lettering and removing anything that is alum and replacing it with black, even the antenna! Going for the all blacked out look. Thanks for your help!

May I ask why you wouldnt want a SUPER STRONG steel Black rock krawler?!?

Probably the same reason I don't want steel wheels. By using alloy wheels which are stronger and ligher than steel, you improve the performance. The extra strength provides longevity as well as effecting tire wear in a positive manner. The weight reduction will improve steering response and handling, as well as help improve acceleration and braking. Steel wheels are easier to bend as well.

There is no comparison between the two. You don't see them putting steel wheels on any high quality vehicle any more. They are just a cheap way to change size and or backspacing of a wheel.

Well, aluminum rims should be lighter, and can usually shave a pound sometimes. No excuse they look better, lots more to choose from. But the theoretical handling improvements don't show on the trail in 4WD - just on the freeway. So you choose based on what you do if function is your first priority.

Steel may not have the same "strength" but the yield qualities do allow pounding them back to shape with a rock if you hafta. Aluminum will fracture. So for the long term, they can be better. And a can of paint makes them black again. I looked around and getting aluminums repolished around here cost as much as new. Not good.

Right now the Jeep has the factory mags ('90) but the budget can't take a $100 a wheel more for new rims over steel. I can take that money and buy a winch bumper. Cheap works for me.

I wish they made RC's in Black Ti, though.

If you don't care for steel wheels, you have two choices. Cast or forged aluminum wheels. Forged are the better of the two. Downside is they are very expensive.

Ok, I know that there are differences between steel and alum. It is like politics and religon. People line up on different sides. I was hoping to see some of the different styles of wheels on people's rigs, so I can come to a decision on what style to get. Don't want something that looks stupid!
