I know this is kinda a duplicate. The SoCal folks suggested I post up here for info :D

The GF and I are heading out to SF Oct 5th, and plan on going up to Yosemite for the weekend. I rented a 4DR Wrangler and was wondering if there are any trails up that way or a source of info on them?

Thanks!

I know there is a trail in one of my books that is near and goes a little into yosemite. I'll take a look later for you.

How long do you have and are you sure your wrangler is 4wd? There are a ton of great trails out here just depends on your timeline and what kind of wheeling you want to do.

The Backcountry Adventures, Northern California book has a lot of easy to moderate trails in the Yosemite area. Including trails 19-23 in the High Sierra section.

The trail I was thinking of was Old Coulterville Road, High Sierra #28 in the Backcountry book. The trail starts out south of highway 120 and dumps you out on the 120 in the park. Very easy but scenic road.

There are other more difficult trails between here and SF just depends what you are looking for.

Sounds cool!
The BackCountry Trails book from 4X4Books is out of stock :(
I found the MVUM for that area, but without knowing what Forest Roads make up that trail, it's tough. It appears the trail is FR2501?

Thanks Josh! I appreciate the info.

GPS: Usually I atleast have the iphone with me

I buckled to pressure and signed up for a bit for Trails.com. It looks like a copy of the book ;) I printed out trail 28, and trail 29 also came with it.

Visited the the John Muir NM and MT Tam... SP areas by SF. Looks like there are lots of Forest Roads... all gated. Too bad! Still, the asphalt roads are pretty interesting by themselves :D

Made it up to Groveland last night. Traffic on 120 gets pretty scarce past Priest Station.

We did Old Coulterville Rd, 2S04 to Pilot Peak, and 2S20 Trumbull Peak trail today. Good Views, but my cheapo camera really didn't do them justice. Between the MVUM, the Trails.com info, and the Garmin We had little trouble figuring out where we were.

We found 1N01 Lumsden Bridge Rd, was closed due to a slide :(

Nice relaxing day on the trails. The trails were not especially difficult, though we did drag the skid plate a bit while climbing a muddy hill because we could not clear the ruts ;)

Thanks again for the Info!

As a concession to my GF, we stuck to paved roads. She was hoping to do some sort of worl-wind tour of the popular sights ;) It took us over an hour to hike to Mercer Grove, and Two Bridges. We are still unsure about the hike to Two Bridges as the "trail" was mostly overgrown and we stopped at a creek crossing that had no bridge. We kept seeing signs that it was paved at one time, but long since abandoned. We were just about toast by the time we got back to the jeep as that's one steep incline for out of shape cheese eaters ;) We did a road tour of the valley, then went up to glacier point. I could not believe how busy it was!! Snow remains above 6k.

We dropped GF's son off at Palo Alto and crashed for the night in SF. Very... Looong day ;)
