What's Your Wiper Position?

My first XJ, it's a 1993. The wipers don't seem to swipe the whole windshield - moving to the driver's side they stop about 4-5" from side of the windshield, and swiping back they stop about 3-4" above the cowl - is this normal? I thought it was simply a pull off and reposition scenario but since they stop so far above the cowl it doesn't make sense. My intermittent feature doesn't work either, which I've read is a bad control module. Are these related?

It might also be the wiper switch in the stalk too - on my '92, the intermittent works with the control in some positions but not others, and the cruise no longer works (but just before it stopped working for good I could sometimes make it work by pressing on the little wires coming out of the stalk to go into the column...

Look under the dash, below the steering column. You should find a small black box velcro'd to the lower dash panel. That's the intermittent wiper module. Of course, unless it's not there. The module simply connects between the 2 connectors. If it goes bad, folks simply remove it and plug the 2 connectors together so the wipers work but only in "fixed" mode.

On my '88, the wipers, when parked, lie about an inch (maybe 2) above the windshield trim. There are plastic bushings that can wear out making the wiper movement "jumpy"

X2 on Saudade, I completely refreshed my wiper bushings, while I was in there I added an improved ground to the motor and it was night and day difference. The swing was completely unpredictable before the new bushings, sometimes it would go over the edge on the drivers side, sometimes onto the cowl on the passenger side. The delay module is a thing I pick up every time I can at the pull a part.
