What's wrong in this picture?

All this talk about "proper cover".
To me, it doesnt even look as if she is attempting to use cover. It looks like she is merely standing close to the vehicle and not behind it, in an attempt to use it for cover. Im guessing the picture was staged and she is not under any threat at that point. So, I have no problem with her tactics in that situation.
That doesnt excuse the backwards magazine. Theres no excuss for that besides she doesnt have the training required to carry that weapon if she cant do something as basic as inserting a magazine.
If I lived in that town, the first thing I would do is petition to have weapons removed from the hands of the police until they get adequate training to use them. Thats just ridiculous.

Ding, ding, ding! We have a winner.

Looks to be staged.

I agree that this officer's cover and shooting form isn't really great, but is it possible that the grainy picture is hiding the fact that she may have TWO 30 round magazines clamped together and the second one is facing down and backwards because she prefers to drop, rotate and insert the fresh mag? Like this:

They might not be clamped using this kind of device, but possibly taped with black tape.

I have lots of trigger time behind an AR and I can't see how she'd get the magazine to stay in that way, much less be able to load a round from that magazine when she deployed the weapon.

Yeah, she might just be that daft of a cop..... but usually, the cops with enough confidence to stand up and shoulder an AR during an incident have very good knowledge in using those AR's.

I dunno, the more I look at it, it just looks wrong, but I suppose my theory might be a possibility.....

I considered the two clip theory but dismissed it because Ive never seen anyone put them opposite each other and when I look closely at the pic, I only see one clip there

x2...That's EXACTLY the first thought that went through when I saw that pic.

To add to what Troy said, the PDs at least in MY area that I've worked with require additional qualification to carry the AR15 in the patrol cars. Standard issue is typically a Remington 870 12ga.

i was gonna say the only way that thing would stick in there was if she jammed the hell in there, and even then i cant see i staying.

i've had magazines stick when u put em in the proper way (messed up mag, caused a double feed) but having one stick in backwards takes a real genius

The only way I see that mag staying in there backwards is if its completely empty, so it doesnt weigh enough to fall out.

Oh itll stay in there if she was in a hissy fit of rage and got all manly and slammed it in there, plenty of friction to hold it there...

I was thinking this, maybe she's the female version of Barney Fife and sheriff Andy only gives here one bullet to carry in her pocket.

Check out this thread from the experts at AR15.com.
Some of them feel its Photoshopped, some feel its two mags. and some feel shes definately in need of further training. One guy actually called the department and they admitted the mag was in backwards. http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=1&f=5&t=517719&page=1

I'm going with photochop as well. I don't trust the "a buddy of mine called a sergeant, etc".
