Its and 86, 2.8 V6, will start but has vaccuum issus so when you get on it it chokes out. 5 speed shifts smooth, 4wd works. Cabs been bondoed on the corners along with the wheel wells on the bed. Spring over in the rear and booty fab coil mount things in the front lol.

The kid is asking $700. I was gonna offer him 600.

what you guys think?

More of a project for me and the gf to make a rig that "can" drive to the trails or local bog and maybe the dairy queen lol. Not lookin to drive to another state or anything

Thats similar to what mine is doing but it also has a rod knock. The choke sticks on mine. FWIW, I got mine for $450. The only thru rust is on the floorboards. Solid rockers, solid cab corners and 66k miles. I'd offer him $550.

I was gonna start at 500. It has 112000 miles.

Good idea. Also, I forgot to mention mine is an Auto not a manual and has 4wd. $500 sounds like a good starting point.

Rust on floorboards, behind rear flares and behind the cab. There are numerous people who have said they have seen extreme rust where the cab meets the bed.

Why's that? Weres spots to look at?

tops of the frame rails under the bed.
brake lines that run over the top of the tank
the top of the tank itself.
the spare tire winch assembly in the back and the x-member its attached to.
rockers
floorboards
bedsides above the wheelwell
tailgate seam/handles (I have a clean tailgate)

I haven't seen rust on the bottom of the cab in back, that's actually a clean spot on mine. I guess the leaky T-Case output helps with that.

Most of the nasty will be above the frame rail on the drivres side where the tank is. If that parts solid the rest of it should be soild enogh to build from. Plan on the bedsides being done, they all rust above the wheel wells, you'll see why when you stick your head up there, not one of AMC's brightest design moves.

bed sides are poop.

The tank straps rusted and the tank isnt even in it. But the frame looked solid. ill double check there tho.

No more spare tire carrier. But i will check the x member there. Rockers arent rotted out but cab corners have been bondoed up.

Tailgates in good shape.

Floorboards have a couple holes but not horrible.

is there a place to buy bed sides and cab corners?

nope.

it's not like an S10 where there's a demand for such a market. Unless you can find a clean bed it's not going to happen without customer patch panels you make.

From what i gather on Wikipedia its an AX-5

ax-5 is probably it.

it's not as stout as the ax-15 (which isn't very stout really), but it's not like the tired 2.8 is going to stress it.

Might want to look into that issue if you plan a repower with a 3.4 or something.

honestly, just find a donor 4.0 XJ and stuff the 4.0 in it. The firewall mods happen with a BFH.
