Looking to buy a Daily driver.. from Honda's to hyundai's.. just a beater that will get better mileage on regular fuel then my 5.9 ZJ..

I've thought about a 4.0/ax15 XJ, with some 30x9.50 A/Ts and 3.55 gears.. or even 3.73s

what should i expect for Mileage out of a setup like that?

possible to get 20mpg average?

my Renix MJ got 21 on the highway

AX-15, 3.55's, 31" street tires.
3.55's w/31's was just about factory on the speedo. 30's and 3.55's would be a nice sweet spot.

city was a bit worse, call it 13-14 around town, but cruising on the highway at 70 MPH is was 20-21 all day long.

I think tires will be the ultimate difference, I had straight highway tread street tires that I drove to the trails on. AT/MT's are bound to get worse mileage.

Depending on the tires you run, you could easily get 20+
Depending on how I drive it, I can get low-20s highway. Thats with 3" lift 4.0L/AW4, 235s, and stock gears.
A friend of mine who has an all stock 89 4.0L/ba10-5 and stock 225s gets mid 20s usually.

I pulled over 23mpg highway driving in my bone stock MJ with 3/4 ton of parts in the back... summer gas, 4.0, AW4, 3.55s, d30/d35, p225/75r15 bridgestone dueler APTs properly inflated, new O2 sensor, no vacuum leaks. Spent the entire time between 55 and 65mph.

Keep your right foot out of it and you should hit 20mpg highway no problem if your engine management system is well maintained.
