What to do for a 1 year old?

So my boy will be 1 year old as of Nov the 8th at 6:30pm.

We want to do something special...............Obviously he will have fun with all the attention but he won't really understand what it is about. It is more Mommy & Daddy celebrating.


I know some of you have kids that are over 1 year old, what did you guys do for their monumental day?

Ya know, you see lots of people throw these extravagant parties for one-year olds, and my wife and I never saw the point. The fact is you little guy will have absolutely no memory of the event, except whatever pictures you show him later in life, and he probably won't care that much at that point.

For both of my boys we had family and some close friends over, filled the house with balloons, threw some meat on the grill, cracked open a few cold ones, and took lots of pictures and vids while we helped them open their presents -- fun for us, fun for them, and cheap.

We did the same for both my niece and nephew. Then when they got tired and we put them to bed; we all got three sheets to the wind and did Limbo....................

Opened a couple of presents, put him in the high chair and let him go to town on a big piece of cake with red frosting.

He wasn't real sure what the cake was since he was still transitioning to regular food, but he got the hang of it. Then it was fun helping eat it and get it everywhere. The mess is the fun part.

Same here... :thumbup: My son's birthday was over the summer, so my wife did everything up with a luau theme. Just about everybody got "lei'ed" that day.

Yeah, I should have added that -- make sure you get a cake with chocholate or other dark frosting so they can bathe it!! Makes awsome pictures!

Well talking to the wife just now we or I should say SHE decided to do a pirate theme (for the vid & pics) and with suggestions ideas to buy two cakes, one for him to completely destroy and one of course for us......

.....she wants to get him a pinata de-candied so he can mangle it to death...(must be the Mexican in her )

He has already tried to get into his DAD's Wine collection;

.................so I don't know about the alcohol


You can also see he's already mastered the art of making a mess;

TWO cakes is definately a good idea. My wife made a special little plate-sized cake in the shape of a "1" for the boys, and a non-slobbered/mangled cake for the rest of us. Not sure how successful a 1-year old will be with a pinata, but my 4 and 6 year olds would freakin love it (and destroy it in short time)!
