What tire/wheel/terrain broke your D30?

35" kevlars

This happened in my driveway

mmm watery gear oil

Yep.. Thought i was covered, New inner shaft seals, AlloyUSA outer shaft seals.. But i cracked the case open to see a milk shake, Found the source to be a missing vent tube in the back.. Cant win!!!:smsoap:

I was going to cryo my 4.88s, the carrier, and the yoke. Would that help?

First time: Big bear, bald BFG AT's 33x12.50x15, open front. sheaed 2 teeth off the ring gear.

I have only broke shafts since then, even with the addition of an Aussie, and KM2's

3.55s, AX15, 33" ATs (same ones as last time... with less tread), aussie locker, 4lo, reverse. Trying to get my tow rig unstuck in the snowy driveway last month, at least I heard it pop and put the clutch in before I separated the balljoints this time.

That is a 297 size shaft. The joint was factory but unharmed - the ears ripped off.

This is about breaking D30s.

Not blowing up shitty ujoints.

:D
the ujoint trunnion was actually 100% intact, surprisingly. Shafts exploded but that's about it.

I still haven't blown up a gearset or carrier, probably because shafts are my fuse right now. Even if I did, 3.55s = I go to the junkyard and get another and stuff my locker in it.

I realized something. It's usually the ring gear that loses teeth right? Someone should make a D30 pinion out of carbide that matches the ring out of some cheap R&P set... when it rips teeth off the ring gear, just build up a weld where the tooth was and let it cut it to shape :eyes: no, I am not serious, why are you even wondering?

I broke the ring/pinion of a low pinion unlocked dana 30 with 4.10's when i was stuck in the snow. I was applying the brake trying to see if it would push the power to the side with traction, I failed.

A few posts back we were talking about how OG dana 44's are in some cases a downgrade from a hp30. So how are JK dana 44's and 30's for that matter compared? I know they have 32 spline outers and and the unit bearing can run with out axle shafts like WJ's can, but how else do they compare?

ive been running 37's onmy stock 30.... and i mean stock... axles, gears, everything is still stock...never broking a shaft yet on this setup... 37-13.50/17s toyo open countrys even which weight as much as a 42 inch mtr...and i wheel this thing hard!

1. I bet it's open
2. LOL you wheel it hard, let's see a video
3. how long have you been getting away with this so far?

Al wheels the piss out of that jeep. Ask anyone in the Sierra chapter and they will agree.

Was on 35's for a year, then 37's for a couple, 39.5's for a year and back to 37's since its a dd again. Broke a r&p on the 35's because the crosspin in the carrier broke. Other than that, with the 39's last year at the hammers after running jack, sledge and chocolate thunder a couple times i broke a shaft on the second run up resolution. i crawl everything for the most part and keep the front tires out from under cuts. Do i trust the 30, hell no.... and when i get off my ass i have something else to put in it but until then ill just keep going easy on it...
