What stereos fit?

This is a post for my Dad, he has a 2001 XJ and needs a new stereo. Nothing fancy, just AM/FM/CD/iPod or AUX jack. His main concern is that Pioneer used to have a head unit that would fit this year XJ perfect and now cant find it anywhere. What options does he have to fill the "bigger hole" in the dash?

Get one that is a din and a half.Or you can get a mounting kit for it and that will fill in the hole.

Most aftermarket head units are a single din size, just get an adapter for 20 or so bucks.

So pretty much any head unit will fit, just get the right adapter kit.

OK...I guess I just learned something. Stereo sizing goes by the term "DIN". I did a google search on 1.5 din car stereo and found exactly what I needed! Thanks for the help!

There are also install kits that allow you to use a single din unit, or you can make your own.

Metra makes a 1.5DIN chrysler adapter for 1DIN decks (Metra 99-6000).
I have one, and it's for sale (High-end Alpine CDA-9855, IPOD connect, and Metra adapter).

That would be great, but if I can´t get one I´d take a good alpine tuner anytime - my last one lasted the whole 10 years I had my XJ.
