What is the back spacing all about??

I currently have stock steel wheels with plastic center cap with BFG KO 31x10.5x15 new.
I am looking at these. I believe my stock wheels are 15x7??

Thanks. So stock back spacing is 5.25" then I will get the 4.0" spacing and wheels will stick out of hub 1.25" more then what I have now. I was considering also getting wheel spacers 1.25", combination of the both would be 2.5", is that too much? Moving them that far out going to cause rubbing else where? They don't rub now. Stock wheels are 7" I think, doesn't matter if I go to an 8" wheel right?

With a 4" backspace you should be good with after market Lower control arms, my wife's jeep rub just a little on very tight turns on stock arms with 11.50 tires. This was while offroading only.
Her rims was a 15x8 with a 4" backspace.

I wouldn't recommend the spacers in combination with the new wheels with 4.0" BS. It will stick out too far and could cause rubbing at the flare/fender area when offroad. But worst of all, that much BS puts a lot of stress of the hub and ball joints. 4"BS will be perfect for your application and it will still work good if you decide later to step up to a taller and wider tire.

IF you really want some that are that far out, get some will less BS.
Recommended is 3.75-4

I'm running 31 ko at's on 7" wide, 3-3/4" bs and it is perfect.

No rub on stock ca's at full lock, minor fender well rub at fully stuff with 3" lift and stock bump stops.

i have 3.25" backspacing wheels that i ran with my old axles and it was nice. stuck out a little bit and with trimming it didnt rub, more turning radius than most wheels.
