I have a 2001 xj, looking at putting on the RE 6030 kit
I was wondering:

if there were any components of this lift are not needed
if there were better substitutes for any of the components in the kit
if there were any additional components needed

Thnx

Lift inspired by new BPI bumper, thanks Omaha Isurance Company!

That is a sick kit. The only thing I can think of would be a HD track bar. I'm runnin Rubicon Express 6200, before the long arm kit came out, and I love it. It is amazing off road, and rides really nice on road as well. My recomendation, get rid of the sway bars. The kit rides nice without em. Just my thoughts. I am sure more will come. Enjoy!

I agree with getting the HD trackbar and mount. I DON'T agree with getting rid of both swaybars, however. The rear one is not a problem to scrap. You NEED the front one though. If you have to make an evasive manuver at any kind of speed, the excessive body roll of running without a front swaybar would make this more difficult and possibly dangerous. I know that there's people who run without them, but I carry my family in mine often and don't want to have a situation where I CAN'T make the moves I need to. A lifted vehicle doesn't HAVE to be unsafe. :soapbox: Get a set of JKS discos, as the RE discos SUCK! They're noisy and are tough to reconnect, IMO.
An SYE is also a good idea at that height.

Sorry BillR. I do agree with ya. Thing is, I don't have either sway bar on, and I have done many sharp corners, sudden as well, and i was in control the whole time. Sharp hard right or left, and the Jeep resonded right away. I retract my statement about taking off the sway bars though. I agree, JKS discos are better than RE's. I appoligize to all who disagreed with my earlier statement. :anon:

This is the lift I just installed on my 2000. I upgraded the fixed lower control arms to adjustable lower control arms, sway bar discos to JKS, and added a JKS adj. track bar and 3/4" spacers up front. Don't forget an SYE and rear drive saft, I did the RE Hack & Tap and a High Angle Driveline shaft. It's my DD and I've wheeled it once since the lift has been installed. So far it's settled to 4.25" of lift in the rear and around 5" in the front. I have stock bumpers so far, C4x4 rear is on the way.

How do you like the BPI? Pics?

I appreciate all the info, is it possible to not need an sye for 3.5" lift? Also, is the kit something I can customize through RE in regards to the sway bar disconnects?

The BPI bumper is awesome, it looks good, and is quite a bit more functional than the OEM. Sorry, no pics yet!

I would suggest buying the kit through a dealer, like Dirk at www.dpgoffroad.com. Much cheaper than buying from RE direct. Also, you can substitute some things, like the disconnects and the shocks. RE kits usually give more than the advertised lift height, so you will easily get 4.5-5" to start until things settle a little. On a 2001 XJ, chances are very high that you will need a SYE and CV driveshaft. Fortunately, RE has a SYE kit for under $100 for the 96+ XJ. You can also get the SYE and either an RE CV shaft, or for a few dollars more, a quality High Angle Drive shaft, from Dirk. Dirk is the only distributor right now that can get the High Angle Shafts made from Jesse to work with the RE kit. Some are going to tell you you can get away with a TCase drop. Sure, that may eliminate the vibes, but the problem is still present, you just can't feel it. TCase drops should only be used as a temporary fix until funds can be saved for the SYE. When it comes to vibes and a SYE, it is better to be pessimistic and prepared, than optimistic and unprepared.

Other than a sye and cv shaft for it, i would go with jks quicker discos, rs9000 shocks and a hd trackbar and mount, then you will have an unbeatable kit. My buddy is runnin that kit with 32's and loves it. Although he rubs a good bit at full flex. But hey, thats what a metal cutting wheel is for.

In theory, the plan is to do it all at once. I was planning on getting the jks discos, trackbar, and sye/cv driveshaft.

As far as the trackbar goes, will the HD trackbar work for this lift when it sags?
