Anymore feedback?

I like the Honda and the Yamaha.

Any webgroups like NAXJA to lurk at?

Thanks all

Fergie
You gonna do any custom work on it?

http://chopperweb.net

Its mostly choppers but there are a few "others" there too.
GREAT group of people who dont care what you ride.

Realistically and from a money vs value point of view nothing beats a Harely Davidson, does not matter what model, size, age. They NEVER loose their value and you can always get what you paid for it, well, almost never if you beat the snot out of it and did not take care of it then it's a different story. Parts are ALWAYS available for it no matter how old and like wranglers they have a HUGE aftermarket supply of custom parts.

Yeah...don't want a Harley...period.

I 've got the choice narrowed down to the Honda 599, and the Yama FZ-6.

What are the differences in components that I should be looking for as far as qulaity and reliability are converned?

THanks

I havent ridden the 599, but did get a chance to take my buddies FZ-6 around the block. I was pleasantly surprized at how peppy it was...while its no full blown 600 crotch rocket, its plenty fast to keep you entertained and handles pretty well. They styling however, i feel, is UGLY. :laugh3:

Check out Triumphs, they have 2 nakeds, a 600 inline four called the Speed Four (which is the bike I have in roulette green) and a 1050 triple called the Speed Triple. I bought my S4 in april 2003 for $6000 out the door with 3 miles on it. The bikes are fast, 97hp, handle wicked, fully adjustable suspension unlike most jap bikes, the bikes are all aluminum, and are priced right. You get respect from both the Harley riders and the Jap riders. I love my Triumph.

Search four Triumph Speed Four and there is a couple of write ups on them from top motorcycle magazines. The S4 came out on top in a few of the write ups against other 600 nakeds. Just go and tes ride some youll find a bike youll like. Good luck!!

I just seen the last post about the FZ-6. My neighbor has that bike, we bought them at around the same time and he absolutely in love with my Triumph S4. They are about the same in straight line performance, but I can leave him way behind in the twisties and curves. Also check out triumphrat.com, lots of nice bikes on that site.

Okay, more choices.

Suzuki V-Strom 650
Triumph Speed 4

Gonna head out to the dealers todayand take a look at everything in person to get a better feel for the bikes.

Are test rides something to ask for or not?

Are you going to commute on it, or play pseudo racerguy? Do you want economical maintenance or ultimate performance? My pick for toy racerbike is the CBR600....if you want more...a GSXR1000 or a 'Busa. They are all fast, handle well and have awsome brakes. I don't like Yamadogs...except maybe the V-Max...they are so out there they are cool. The TL "zukes" are real nice.

Stay away from anything European...maintenance and repair will eat you up. Ducati invented the desmo valvetrain....but Vance & Hines put them in the winner's circle. Byron and crew spend a lot of time locked up in the dyno room with Duck motors.

If you want a COMMUTER that has ultimate reliability and plenty of power...get a Goldwing...you can pick up a used one for cheap. If you keep up on the maintenance and keep the cam belts fresh, it will run a zillion miles.

If you want something REALLY fast..I'll sell ya my Fossil Kawi 900...it don't corner at all, or go more that 1320ft at a time...gets horrible fuel mileage...but it will go 1320ft in 8.20 seconds..faster if you stand on the tune-up....hell it goes 30 to 40 miles between rebuilds...sometimes :laugh3:

Not looking for something super fast, but do want some pep to it. If I have something super-fast, I will use the speed, and get myself into trouble.

I want a bike that I can drive to work, 15 miles or so, and still have fun doing it. Also want to be able to take the wife and I out on it if we feel the urge to go for an afternoon ride.

So, a decent balance between rideability, speed, and feasability.

Test rides are extremely rare. Best bet is to find a friend with the bike your considering and try that.

I guess if I had to list I would say Honda, Triumph and Harley.
