On my way up north 12-21, I ran the pike all the way through NJ. At the top end of the state, I got in the wrong toll lane and ended up at the booth with no human. The LCD screen said "TOLL UNPAID - GO"

So I stiffed 'em for $6.45. If they had a camera on me at the time, they'd have my confused mug & me holding the toll ticket & a tenner. ;) But I suspect they only gots my tag #.

What do they do? Mail ya a ticket/bill? How long should I be "nervous" and what sort of surcharge would they nail onto it. Should I just get a money order & mail it in? There is no addy on the toll ticket, but a little surfing would turn one up.

The Jeep is tagged as my wife's, and I'd hate to mess up her (32 years & NO tix) clean driving record...Muahahahaha :D

Yeehaaa - we now own yer ass, bubba!!!

Latest edict from our four-faced guv is to impound all cracker-mobiles from below the Mason-Dixon line whose drivers demonstrate a clear indication of the lack of an ability to read.

:rtm:

Stiff the NJ Highway Authority??? Not stuff the pork into the barrell? Woe to ye who dare this during the time of budgetary crisis!!!

Can you say "Debtor's Prison"??? (the population of Rahway State anxiously awaits the arrival of your lily-white southern butt)

:D

(Actually, I have no idea what will happen - I (as most residents) try to avoid the Turnpike religiously - it's definitely set up for transients. However, having read about horror stories regarding EZ-pass abuse and toll "cheats", I would recommend you get in touch with them ASAP. According to the NJHA website - EZ Pass Customer Service is 1 888 AUTOTOLL and the Turnpike number is 1 732 247-0900)

By the way, if you need a local character reference . . . . try Lawn Cher' :) - even though he's now in St Loueey, his Garden State address is probably still active. That way you won't affect any of the rest of us by having a property tax surcharge show up on our municipal bills.

Good Luck

Even though I am a New Jerseyan who avoids tolls, just like mike, I know what will happen. You get a bill for the toll plus a $25 surcharge.

Well then, I'll just call them and explain/make arrangements... and avoid that rascally place until things settle out.

:Matlock voice on: Your Honor, my client had the toll $ in his paw as he halted at The State's (negligently vacant and poorly marked) toll booth. He maintains wasn't worth trading paint at 2200 on a Sunday night to ease over into the cash line, and the traffic 12-26 was not condusive to negotiate with the toll taker at the southbound end. The defense proposes to settle for the $6.45 toll only :Matlock voice off:

LOL @ Mike. I saw inside Rahway once...on the olde 'Scared Straight' tele programme. I might oughtta watch it again eh? I probably know some folks in there now :viking:

Call the turnpike authority and explain what happened. Ask them to send you a bill or give you an address to send your ticket and money into. Make a copy of your toll ticket so if you get another bill you still have the toll ticket. I have gone through the tolls before and not had cash on me dont ask what I was thinking, but they just sent me a bill later. I did at the time explain myself though. Good luck and I wouldnt worry about it too much as long as you call them. Remeber to get a name from who you talked to.

WOW,

Here in Ontario Canada we have 1 toll road the 407, it takes a picture of your plate and mails you your "Bill", that road is and always be a farce. I am getting into politics and I am totally against toll roads, gas tax, aand other taxes should more than pay for our roads, if not the government is not doing their job in properly serviceing the highways that we use, our "toll" road was typical of the PC Government - let the private industry take everything over, I am not a beleiver in this type of system.

Thanks to Ontario toll roads, it is the most expensive in North America, and does nothing for the people of Ontario (who built the damn thing in the first place only to sell it to a private company!!) I know it does nothing to help your case, but I feel for you and as long as the Tory Governmets in Canada are not in power we Canadians should be free of those types of rotten deals for motorists - Toll Roads.

They will track down the tag number and send a citation notice. Just comply with the notice and everybody happy. cept ye who loose $25.00 fine for not being able to read and understand english and get into the wrong booth which is changed every couple days to keep us confused. So I got E-Zpass no problem. :looser:

I had this happen to me too. You will get a letter in the mail for your toll and $25, but if you call the Turnpike Authority and tell them you were gonna pay the toll but were in the EZ Pass lane (which is the lane that I presume you were in) they will most likely waive the $25 and just tell you to write a check for your toll. It sucks because I had this happen on the parkway, in which I owed $0.35, I had to write a check for $0.35 and the price of a stamp. I sucks man.
