Pretty sure this isn't a "Colorado" thing, or an independent contractor thing.

If you are out on a jobsite and you get hurt, it doesn't much matter who pays the insurance bill, you are still out of work. If you don't have disability insurance along with medical insurance to cover your income while recovering, your are hosed.
