First off, im not sure what i should be running, but i ran consistenly from 16.9 to 17.3 the whole night (5-6 runs). I have a 1998 cherokee aw4 command trac, 4.0 93k, 3.55's, 235/75R15's and rustys intake, magnaflow homemade 2 1/4" exhaust, poweraid TBS, jet chip stage 1. It wasn't too warm out and it was about to rain so idk about huminty, they have the conditions on the slips at home. But i tried everything from 2wd (almost no slip off the line) to 2200rpm powerbrake in 4wd. I tried everything possible and still was a half second below stock? :helpme: Any idea why it was slower than should be expected? My only guess would be that the tranny is slightly slipping, the intake sucks in hot air (no heatshield) or that i just shouldnt be out there with an 8 year old jeep...any thoughts would be appreciated and if you want a poweraid TBS for $60 or jet chip stage one for $100 then they are up for it. And btw, there was no backseat 1/4 tank of 87 with octane boost, and i lowered the pressure after 3 runs to 27psi in right rear tire (my one legger that spins).

For one, its a 4wd, which adds weight and rolling resistance. The mods you explain are ok, but not enough for go fast stuff. You may want to deflate both rear tires, for an even pressure on both sides, weather its a one tire fire or not. How many miles? And the gears are killing you. For drag racing, I would go with at least 4.10 gears, shouldn't be a big deal since you have OD. Street legal slicks, if you even spin the tires off the line in 2wd. Properly set up suspension, good tires, and a fast RT will net you better also. Its just a Heep, but they can be built to go perty good. You may have to experiment with stuff, to get the right combo. 16.9 isnt fast by any means, but its just .10 slower than a stock 1991 Accord.

Its ok, the fastest I've ever run the 1/4 when my jeep wasn't lifted, I had a K&N and a Doug Thorley header and everythign else was bone stock, still only ran it 16.605 at 80.53 mph. I'm sure you can do better if you pull all the seats and carpet out, run with very little gas in the tank, and take out everything but you to include spare tire, tools, straps, etc you might find stashed somewhere. :laugh3:

I am now throughly confused? why would you run a refrigarator box down a drag strip. now a guy i know runs an 8 second astro van , and that was the 4.3 with the 700r4, now its a 400 small block and a th350. but a 4wd cherokee. hmmmmm I thinky you were bored or just plain goofy!

I am going to have to raise the

Flag on this one.

I no believey unless some vids or pix are present.

Maybe the 1/8th mile.

ummm, I do not have video of this , but if you ask ANYbody In muncie indiana if the know the finleys , or toms lime green lowered , iroc rear end panal wagon astro. they will most certianly say yes. if not they havent been to muncie. he and his brother shawn run some nasty fast stuff. if shawn still does he did run a 69 camero with some alum big block.I saw him run it against a corvette here in anderson on the interstate for $100 bucks. the corvette kid weeped coming out of pocket. toms van is/was nasty fast. was running that 4.3 with nos, blew it up a few times and then put in the 400ci small block! call bs all you want, muncie doesnt run 1/8 mile, bunker hill does.

You can go ahead and appeal to nonexistant authority all you want. What he's pointing out is that an 8 second Astro van would flatly be practically world famous. That Jason Heffner twin turbo'd Viper ran 8 seconds but we're talking quadruple digit horsepower here. Mario from Ex Vi Termini ran 8 seconds in his ridiculously modified twin turbo Skyline GT-R, but again we are talking well over a thousand horses. Like 12 Guage, I also just don't believe he ran 8 seconds on a 4.3, period...

A low barometer, high humidity, bigger tires, and an intake that was sucking in hot air were probably the main reasons why you were slower than stock.

ok, ok. I will take my spanking or stoning now publicly. I has been some time ago since I saw toms van run. But I am still pretty sure it was that fast. I could be(as several people pointed out, and probably mistaken). But It was damn scary nasty fast for an astro van, And I KNOW the numbers were 1/4 mile stuff, neither of them ran 1/8

I bet if i took out the headlight and cut the metal behind it, and made a heatshield, it would have been a bit better. But i dont want to look like an even bigger idiot running 16's without a headlight. Either way, i'll figure something out to go faster. :patriot:

That mini van had the old school chrysler Turbo II motor i belive (either that or the Turbo III motor). That mini van is running crazy boost. Thier is no way a ASTRO VAN could run a 10 or anything below that with the factory 4.3 in it. Well unless it had a seperate jet Engine in the back then MAYBE

if it is possible to do an 8 sec 1/4 in an astrovan....

You'd die in it before you got to the end of the strip...it would sheer apart from being a POS right off the assembley line.

I saw an Astro on Pinks (Speed Channel) that had some big block crate motor(dont remember displacement), supercharged, and he only ran a 10.5 without Nitrous Oxide. Even with the Nitrous (they showed Dyno numbers) at 1050 horses, could only pull something between 9.0 and 9.5.

Edit: Forgot to mention... It didnt even look cool. And the driver was an idiot.

IIRC it's a factory bottom end 2.5 T1/ modded A-413 3spd auto combo, ported head and manifolds, big turbo, Powerstroke intercooler, on slicks with no nitrous.

Turbo-II was essentially a Turbo-1 with more boost, or maybe Turbo-1 was the 2.2 and Turbo-II was the 2.5. Turbo-III was the Lotus version of the 2.2 motor, aluminum everything, DOHC, something like 224HP @ the fly, but needed to be rebuilt every 10-20k (as I recall - I used to drool over those 2.2s & 2.5s, my first car was a Sundance without a single option, the thing had 94HP and I drove it like I stole it - even had a manual tranny.....ah, memories....) Turbo-IV was the VNT Turbo, pioneered by Shelby for the Dodge Omni GLH & GLHS. Lotsa balls, I forget the power rating (somewhere a little north of the Turbo-III?), less reliable than the T-III due to the impeller vanes getting clogged with carbon deposits and so-on.

Wow, I actually DO know something! And go figure, it's completely useless, cuz that motor's obsolete and hasn't been built since, oh, about 96 or so.....maybe 94 when then-Chrysler came out with the 2.0 for the Neon and all those other crap cars....LONG LIVE THE P-BODY!!!! (Sundance/Shadow)
