No, I'm not sitting on Dan's Welfare Train, I riding the bus/commuter train to work. I'm paying $200/month just to commute, which isn't really that bad compared to a lot of people, but my company just purchased transit passes good through the end of the year for the entire office. Found a bus and a train that will get me to work in about 45-55 minutes compared to the 35 minutes it takes now, but I'll be able to read and review project documents and bill 30min of the trip to a project. I might pick a bus stop about 5 miles away and ride the bike (the bus can take the bike, no need to lock it up) and actually get some excersize twice a day. Very nice!

Sweet. Now I can bill my commute time and watch all the other wierdos riding the welfare wagon to work (or rehab).

I figure the company paid over $1K for the pass, I might as well try it for a fefw days and see if it pans out. I'm sick of paying over $3/gallon, and I only see it going higher.

$3... sounds cheap.

what the hell is a welfare wagon?

Welfare Wagon = Public Transportation

Gas = $3.40/gallon

Mormons = 2 years supply of bitching about gas prices to God

Please, use the train so that those of us that can't will have less traffic to deal with!
We rode it on Monday as a family and it's a nice setup, we'll be using it on the weekends to run to SLC for sure.

What about the train? Or was that a bus OR a train to work?

Corrected for my area.

Jeff, I commute the opposite direction as you anyway, I'm not removing any traffic in front of you, sorry. I'll only be riding the new train into Davis county for one stop, back off in Woods Cross.

I'll ride the bus to the train station downtown, then on the train for about 10 minutes and a short ride into work. We get a new building in a few weeks that is about 300 yards from the train station, so this will be really easy soon.

welfare wagon = public transportation! haha wait till the guys at work hear this one ! thanks guys!

Oh, and I fixed this for you.

But I guess that's okay seeing how they only pay their "Transportation Operators" $17.50 an hour. Which is actually less than half the pay of what the job is really worth.

Sheesh!

At least that train is full all the time and actually does something productive...like take more cars off the road.

If Amtrak could figure out a way to do something productive as well I would be all for it but for now it's just a glorified Greyhound bus.

Frontrunner has been in existence since only last Saturday(04/26). Yes, it was full, but only because it was FREE for the first 3 days. Give it time to settle down before making such a uneducated statement.

As long as Amtrak is in business and I work there, you'll never be "for it".

People said Trax would never work. Nobody would use it, it was a failure before it even started. They were all proved wrong.

That isn't true. I have said before that I would hate to see you lose your job. I don't feel the way I do about Amtrak because of you. In fact I wish someone would figure out a way to make it a system that was efficient and desirable for people to use. The east coast runs that really put the trains to good use I have no problem with at all. I just don't see the reason behind keeping it running across the country when it costs so much money and isn't really a viable form of transportation.

Thats one of our problems, that we see public transportation for only "po folk". That and the closest bus route is at school which is where I'm usually going.
