well whatever it was, deleting the cache fixed it. really weird though.

Your thread display mode was set to "threaded" mode...
In the User Control panel, select Edit Options, then look in Thread Display Options, and there is a drop-down for Display Mode... This is where you can change that. Be sure to hit the Save Changes button (at the bottom of the page) to make them take effect.
