Weird Jeep Uses?

OK what's your deviant Jeep derived fantasy?

I'd like a 4.0 powered, .250 aluminum hull 2 or 4 seat jetboat or airboat. Airboats are fairly amphibious (beach landings LOL)

Also a 4.0 powered AC/DC generator/welder/air compressor on a MJ bed derived trailer.

I saw a neighbor on a SBC powered chopper the other day...would a 4.0 not splay ones legs out so far? How about a 4.0 powered hillclimb bike? Just a 1 speed would do IMHO...While you're out there hit bonneville for a run or two with different tires :)

This isn't the first time this question has been posed, just to a new audience...

Always remember that some ultramaroon and his gal crossed the Atlantic in a Ducked Up CJ flatty and wheeled Europe.

I've toyed with the idea of an XJ helium balloon. The gas and silk would be a tight fit to cart around but I think it could be done. Stripped down to about 1500 lbs, it could probably keep the motor and basic 4wd. You could tow the gas, I suppose ... the idea is half-baked and needs more time in the oven, but that's one fantasy, anyways.

How 'bout a submersible XJ?

LOL a watertight XJ with flippers like a seal on the hubs (and the jet drive.) Can a D30/35 combo stand up to flippers?

I've always wanted a catamaran type boat with two 4.0s. I've been thinking of that idea since back when I had the strait pipe on and thought, wow, that sounds like a boat

I've been thinking of a custom built trailer frame with an MJ bed mounted to it,then designing a 10' X 10' platform made from plywood that would fold completely up and sit even with the bed rails when not in use(would need some sort of canvas cover to protect the wood from the elements when not in use). This would be a cool place to pitch a tent,as you could use padding underneath the tent, and store all your camping goodies underneath the platform in the bed. What do you guys think about that idea? Kinda like a poor man's pop up camper

Well,

Now that I think of it, it would be kind of interesting to see how my 4.0 would perform in a tractor since 4.0's resemble tractor engines so much. Or better yet a stroker 4.6 in a plow tractor. Hehe, that would be one fast New Holland.

Inflatable rock sliders, front and rear skids, like they put on helicopter landing skids that work around water. Pull up to a lake or pond, pop on a set of center caps with paddles on them, inflate the rockers and skid bladders with on board air and drive in. Get to other side, drive out, deflate bladders and remove paddle center caps. :D

OK, Rich and Tucker need to get together and build Chitty-Chitty Bang Bang...

Flowers and I can get to work laying keels for the NAXJA Navy... twin 4.0s in a cat (or any sort of boat) would be sweet.

Georgia Mike might be a little fraid of Tellico ground camping with all those little piggies running around ;) Actually a MJ bed camper is a slick idea. I though about this some time ago, include a pop-up bed cap, roof air :) and maybe use the fuel tank (location) as water storage for a shower?

Actually I was thinking it would be cool since the only time we seem to go 'wheeling is in the rain  and it gets kinda crowded in the tent with all the camping junk by myself, let alone with me AND someone else

Or an on-board "holding tank" ?:D

I was riding in a large single-engine Cessna last week, and noticed that the interior accomodations are about as tight as an XJ.

Now, the water-cooled Jeep 4.0 tractor engine is about as far as possible from a desirable aero engine, so despite it's rugged durability it has to go.

Take that aluminum Cessna 'unibody' and make the wings, tail, and prop removable.

Throw away the trike gear and replace with aluminum axles front and rear. Attach hydraulic tractor motors at the pinon of each diff, and install an hydraulic pump in place of the prop.

Fly to your ultimate inaccessible location and land with STOL on whatever clearing is available.

Convert to 4wd and leave the wings at base camp as pup-tent style accomodations, wheel all day at rock limbing speeds with the hydraulic motors, and return to base camp.

Of course, if you roll you are going to be flattend like a beer can.

How about a Bonneville type rig? Has anyone ever done this...I know that if it has wheels you can run it at the salt flats!
I can see it now....20" wheels,slammned.....running some fuel that only a dentist could love! HEY!! Maybe even chopped!!

One of the farmers here, has a 4.2l out of a Hornet, running a water pump for his irrigation. He says the AMC motors are alot more reliable than the Ford 300 he replaced.

I ran across an article about 2-3 years ago on how to turn an XJ into a fully functional Nuclear Submarine with guided missles. I tried to find it again with no luck. I dont know if that idea holds water (no pun intended), but hey, theres an idea for the NAXJA Navy.
