Weekend DPG Shake-down run...

Well this was the first time out actually wheeling the XJ since I finished the axle swap and tires... It did pretty good IMO...

Nothing broke just need to cut another 4" or so off the ARB up front and slide the rear axle back 1/2". All in all I'm pleased with it. We wheeled them pretty hard at the playgound so hopefully it'll do ok at Tellico for the Crawl.

We didn't take many pictures this time but have a lot of video footage im going to upload in the next day or so.

Oh yeah, the night before we left I got bored and decided to go ahead and cut/fold my lower quarters (still waiting on my bumper to arrive). But other than that the specs are:

Front:
RE 3.5" ZJ coils
3/4" spacer
1.5" lift built into the coil bucket on the axle

Rear:
RE 3.5" Leaf pack
RE 1.5" boomerang shackles
TNT 1.5" UBE

Steering:
tubing/heims

Axles (thanks nick):
GW Dana 44 up front, 5.13's, Aussie
Isuzu Dana 44 out back, 5.13's, Lockright, TNT truss, Disc's

Anyways here's my XJ and my cousin's YJ:

How the jeep turned out:

And I just liked this shot:

I'll get some video's up in the next day or so of some actual wheeling.. DPG's pretty much just vertical rock gardens...

I got a few videos i'm gonna post up, and a couple of good pictures of yours Chris, and one shot of yours, mine and will's parked.

Even though I didn't do much with mine (not high enough, and crappy tires) it still was cool comin to hang out for a couple of hours. I wish I had taken more pictures of the YJ...

Chris (obviously)

The 3 XJ's: Chris's, Will's (bigwillxj) and mine

Also did a little flex testing on mine and Will's.

Will's w/ the front swaybar disco'd:

Mine, with everything still connected.

Looks like i'm gonna have to come up with some quick disco's for the front sway bar. The rear did pretty well however.

I'll upload my videos later on and post em up tonight.

Very Nice looking Jeep, those are some big ass tires. I saw you did the cut and fold on the rear, what technique did you use to seal it shut. You will be happy with Terrys bumper, the rear quarter protection is nice.

Little silicone.. the jeep stays in the garage mostly so I wasnt too concerned w/ water..

I did it a little different than most where I actually folded the front back also to keep water out...

Yeah I did the same with the Silicone and the folding the front back, but im still worried about water getting in there. When my welding skills get better i will end up welding them shut

That will get done when I have some extra time.. Probably when we get back from tellico next week... I just have had too many things to get finished to worry much about it right now.

Silicone, what silicone? I did the cut n fold over a year and a half ago with no issues.

I used GE brand Aluminum & Metal type silicone. It really bonds well to the metal, but you need to make sure you get every crack.

Out of all the videos I have, here are the ones worth posting the most.

Hmmmmm, what tire pressure is the XJ running????

I know right... it's actually 8psi! The video really doesnt do DPG justice... I think it was more the 40"+ rock my Driver's tire was trying to pull up on.. It's one place where wheelbase was killing me. Each tire was trying to pull up on a rock at exactly the same time...

Excuses, excuses, excuses... I know.. well it walks it now, that was my first approach at that line.. If you approach it the way I did it's not going to happen.. you have to pull the pass tire up on the rock like I did in the second video.

Hopefully I can get the upper section of that line uploaded.. it's pretty interesting to say the least.

8psi, those irocs must have a super stiff side wall??? They really didnt seem to be conforming to the rock shape too easily. Maybe that tire is really designed to be run at a little lower pressure . Obvoiusly with beadlocks.

Actually they have maybe 100miles on then when we got there... They conform pretty well but most people will tell you IROKs dont start gripping well until they get a little worn...

My plan is to run 6psi at Tellico...

Very nice Jeep. How much have you cut off your ARB so far? I went to do a little wheeling today with my ARB I just got last week, and I think I need to replace one of my Toyo M/T's I bought 2 months ago because I cut it up good on it, and I only have 33's.

Well it's now cut up to where the fender line is right behind the corner marker lense. It's pretty much cut even w/ the amber corner marker on the side...

It cut my IROKs some but wont happen anymore... I'll get a pic up tomorrow....
