Way off topic. Configuration of Zoom X5 modem

So I bought this modem/router incase my other 5 year old modem or router took a crap. I am trying to setup port forwarding on port 80. I can't make heads or tails out of their jargon as it appears they don't call it Port Forwarding anymore. The one link I did find for help, Port Forwarding.com, well I followed the directions on the page and when I type in my IP, it goes to the modems setup screen. WAN setup is shut off, so I don't even know where it's getting that from.

If you are aquainted with this "Fine" peice of Technology, help me out, please. Zoom wants everything including my shoe size to answer a setup question by email, and my experience with tech support lately is that I'll get "Joe" in Istanbul on the line to try and help me.

Mine did not call it port forwarding either. It was under the firewall settings, and I had to set a "user specific program" that I could then assign a port or range of ports to. Gay

Some call it a virtual server.

I didn't get anywhere with this...

The only model I have is the example of a Xbox360. They say to go to teh advance page and make a NAT rule as a RDR type, specify your output addresses (range or specific IP), specify the port if you don't want everything to get directed to that IP or IP range and call it good.

Everytime a port 80 request comes in, it pops up the web based set up screen even though the router is at a different address, and I changed it's ports to something out of range like 61080. I even tried deselecting the manager software completely. The only thing which changed was that the routers webpage didn't come up.

On and off since this summer I've played with this, and all I'm getting is frustrated. I hate to do this, but I suspect I'm going to have to call up the folks at Zoom and ask them for help. I can't believe this is so hard. My Linksys took 15minutes, but it doesn't have an internal modem either.

I wish there was a way to just tell this thing to do the same exact function as the SpeedSteam I got with the DSL service. Just pass everything both ways and let a separate router sort it out.

Return it, get a good separate DSL modem and a good router. I've never had a combination router/modem/WAP I did not hate with a passion, my westell was a disaster as was the belkin abomination I had years ago.

Did you click all "apply" and "save" buttons? Sometimes they take the new settings and just sit on em until you press a magical button that makes them take effect, usually crappy routers will also force a router reboot at this point and piss you off even more by disconnecting you from everything.

It will do that, you just need to put it in bridging mode.
