Washboard road cracked my liftgate!

Just took a road trip to Southern Utah and drove tons of washboarded out dirt roads (maybe a little fast at times). Now my fiberglass liftgate is cracked at the latching mechanism. Anyone else have this? Will it get worse and start causing any real issues, or just a cosmetic thing? Would anyone advise drilling a hole at the end of the crack and trying some sort of fiberglass repair? Really don't wanna get a new liftgate right now... but also don't want it breaking and coming open while on some trip. JP

Mine broke most of the inside liner plastic clips and cracked the inside plastic in places, but hasn´t cracked the outer shell yet. A good tight fit and good rubber, helps keep it from moving around some. Using some sheet metal screws through the inside liner to the shell, also stiffens things up a bit.
I´d probably use a piece of sheet metal and some pop rivets (with large heads), If you don´t want the heads of the rivets showing, maybe counter sink them a touch and puddy them over. Roughing up the sheet metal and epoxy, as well as rivets, will probably make it stronger than the original piece.
