warn 8274 motor is TOAST!

welp. got off the phone with warn.

they handed me off to gds.....

warn has a one-year warranty on electricals, and does not warranty on abuse.

if the winch was newer than one year, which it is not (4/24/02) than I would send the ENTIRE winch down to GDS outside of st.louis where they would determine wether or not the winch was abused. I pay shipping there, they fix, and pay for shipping back.

out-of-waranty repairs i pay shipping both ways, and whatever the repair costs.

I'm gonna send the thing to one of my motor guys to see how hard they laugh.

Let me know how your local builder goes. You bought your new rope yet or are ya just gonna cut that section of cable out?

Sean

that damn cable is broken right in the smack-dab middle of it.

I did buy the rope.

I can get the cable repaired, maybe keep it in the trailbox as one of those last-resort spares.

I e-mailed the pic to my motor guy. he specializes in dc motors, does all the motors for our forklifts....

first thing he said was "how in THE hell were you able to do THAT much damage without scorching the lead cables?"

then he went on to say that repair would probably cost as much as replacement.

he also was hesitant since he was unsure if he could get replacement parts for a motor made in brazil. He figured it was either "brand a or brand b" forgoet what he was mumbling about that particular issue.

he gave me one number to call, someplace in rockford.

I have a couple local leads to check yet, but I already have two expert opinions that this motor is totally fawked. The only thing that is not damaged is the housing. EVERYTHING ELSE is wasted.

I did a number on this thang.

Seriously Beez, did you just haul him straight up? No Pauses? Use a snatchblock? Good jesus, were ya abusing it? Sure looks it LOL!!!

I saw Lawn Cher this weekend...stoked on his Hydro Purchase;)

I didn't waste the winch pulling up sean.

it happened later. Musta been on pritchett canyon. I don't remember where exactly.

sean said something about a puff of smoke. i didn't see it cause i was in the jeep. when I was winching sean, i was outside the jeep so it didn't happen then.

yeah, we did use a snatch block hauling sean up the waterfall.

these were no candy-ass winch pulls btw......

aw shit....

lawncher, please e-mail me....

I'm a total jackass.....

the winch is fine, and everything is in order...

I'll explain...

pm me please if you read this.

one smack,

when are you gonna open little timmys winch?

if you cannot spin the drum, I'm almost sure that motor is gonna look like mine.

pray you have a better time with the warranty department, cause a replacement motor is pretty fawkin expensive.

I'm opening it this weekend. The gear side was locked up, Keith fixed that. It freespools now at least. I'm hoping that Tim's doesn't look that bad. I figure it's going to cost me $200 no matter what route if the warranty folks aren't being nice.

I hope my motor doesn't look like that!!!!!!!!!!!!

Take Ky's advice, he knows his loopis.

Sean,

Give me jingle after you open it up. If the 9500 motor looks as bad as the 8274, I'll call the regional Warn rep. for an explanation.

Flowers

the explanation is:

you fawked up a winch, congratulations no-warranty boy.

just be glad that a winch is the only thing you brought.

none of us had a chance to trash anything else.

but, we'll have our chance soon enough

(evil snicker)

Beezil,

You may want to call Dresslers in Glen Ellyn , Ive heard there isnt anything they cant do....theyve been around since the 40's or 50's

Lot of old world folks if ya know what i mean ....like Middlelands... you should be able to work with them

Chewy

so, you want me to go over by the dresslers, and start off the conversation by saying "We gotta little PROWLBLEM wit dis ting here".........

hows that?

Ya got to love the MidWest

You truly have to love the midwest and its "we can fix it" mentality.

Originally from Cleveland and have lived all over the US. Miss the MidWest "can do" and being able to start out a conversation with ............."We gotta little PROWLBLEM wit dis ting here".........

Great Quote Beez! Brought back some memories from growin up.
Had an old Czech guy in town who sold tires. He use to break the beads by hand. Strong as an ox. But you had to know how to talk "old country" to him to get a deal!
