I'm looking for a steering box from a Jeep (Cherokee, Grand Cherokee, Wrangler, Waggy).
What I need is the sector shaft (shaft the pitman arm attaches), so a junk box is ok.
Please let me know what you have and a price.

I custom rebuild them. $160 to your door. They are completely disassembled, then rebuilt with all new bearings and seals. The externals are all glass beaded, painted, and baked. This also included porting for hydroassist, but comes with plugs so you can run it as a stock box until that time. It looks like and performs like a new box. No core charges.

I've got an xj box, $20

I'm going to use the sector shaft out of the steering box to make a broach. So I can cut splines in a pitman arm or possibily make a custom length pitman arm that will fit the XJ box.

I'm a machinist and broaching is fun but almost a lost art. Would like to see how you are setting this up. How hard are you going with your heat treat?

i'll give you a worn out xj steering box, in exchange for you posting a bunch about the broaching process and your project.

Very cool....I'd be happy to post the results of the broach project. Can we try to set up a parts train?

I have a few pitman arms that are longer (hole to hole) than an XJ pitman arm. Currently I am running a Scout II pitman that has been cut to the length I needed. I beleive a WJ pitman will work but the splines ar clocked different than an XJ arm.
I do have other pitman arms that are longer (hole to hole), vary in drop and spline orentation. So my plan is to broach the blanks (the 4 spots missing splines) out of the arms so they will mount in any position.

Not sure if what I'm trying will even work.
I don't know what the sector shaft is made of.
