WANTED: someone to help me install stuff

I have come to the realisation that it makes no sense to buy stuff for my Jeep, even necessary stuff like recovery points, if I don't have anyone to help me install it. I know I can't do it by myself, due to my bad back, and no one else in my family is into cars so they can't help me.

It's a shame, but I might as well stop buying anything else at this point, and accept the fact that I won't be doing any wheeling in my XJ for the foreseeable future. Might even get rid of the lift, since there's no point, really, and I don't want to be a poser.

Well, that is all I have to say.

I was hoping to find someone local via this board or others who could help me, but I guess everyone's too busy or not interested. And I am limited in where I can drive so if it involves a highway, I'm out.

Oh, and I'm not gonna shell out $200+ for a 4x4 shop to install it for me, like my shop told me they'd charge just to hook up the friggin' Hellas...

why so angry? someone will help ya!, I'm a little far away.

Mainly because I have stuff I want to do to my Jeep and I don't know how to do it and I can't find anyone who does, other than people at 4wd shops who want to charge me an arm and a leg to do it.

I have stuff sitting around that I can't install and I'm just frustrated about it.

Well how far could you travel if someone was willling to help you. I have a buddy about an hour from you that maybe one day when our schedules work we could get together and get some of the work done. Dont sell the Jeep you will regret it.

Where in NC? If close to Murphy or not call Travis(yellowxj) he owns Blue Ridge 4x4.Travis, Michelle, Hannah and Parker live above the shop and they have a bunk house.

They are great people, sometimes hard to get ahold of, but Travis loves xj's... 706-374-3547(flip)

The attitude you just portrayed in that little pity party isn't going to help you get help. All you have to do is ask and offer something like beer and pizza and it's pretty likely you will get some help. You just have to be definitive about it, you can't lolly-gag around, let people know you're serious and you'll have help. I know myself and my friends are usually willing to help people out and the common "charge" is beer, cheap food, and the offer that you will be there to help them out one day when they need it.
Now, what do you need help with?

i agree with bruceb83, feeling sorry for yourself never gets anything good accomplished, i live a couple hours away, might being coming to charlottee if work sends me down there, if they do i could help, have u tried any local 4x4 clubs to join and get there help, as mentioned before most guys will help as long as u treat them with respect and return the favor, what is it u wanting to install? and why cant u drive on the highway? have u thought about getting a good manual, most aftermarket parts come ith instructons, if at first u dont get it right, then try again none of us got jeep repair on the first try, that is waht makes the xj and this forum great wvwryone here has a passion for t here jeep and want to share that with anyone who will listen, hth

First of all, I am not feeling sorry for myself. I am simply frustrated by the fact that I don't know what I am doing and I can't find someone who can physically show me how to do it. I am a visual learner. That, and the fact that I don't want to screw something up; I don't have a disposable income to just buy another if I mess up installing something. I would rather let someone who knows what they're doing install it or help me install it.

Secondly, I have always been more than happy to provide beer, free food, etc for any help. That is not a problem for me.

Thirdly, I am not lolly-gagging around; if I wasn't serious about getting help, I would not have bothered to post this.

I would like to learn how to do this stuff, so I can do it on my own, but I'm a full-time student and I don't have time to take an automotive course at my local community college, or get a job, so I don't have a ton of money lying around.

Here's what you do...post up "Need help installing _____" in the title. Then, let people know specifics of what you want to do, where you are at, if you are willing to drive to someone's place (this is helpful because it sounds like you may not have the tools for what you want to do), and when you want to do it. That's all you need to do! Then if anybody is available they will see that informative post and reply if they can help.

What I meant by lolly-gagging around is don't just post "need help installing stuff", especially in a frustrated manner, let people what the deal is. When they don't see you stating what/when/where they may not think you're serious. That's all I meant, don't get your panties in a wad...;)

i searched using aol and found a local 4wheel club http://www.core4x4club.com/ that is located in charlotte, so i know that they r in your area, u might try contacting them otr joining them and going to one of the meetings to meet the people, i am sure someone there will be happy to help you out

OK I see what you mean now, thanks!

How far are you from Concord?

Its a shame you don't live in VA. None of us have cash but we love to tinker with other peoples shit! Add beer and pizza, hell, you'd get all your stuff built in a weekend up here.

shoot me a pm with stuff ya need help installing. I own a small 4wd shop and all we do is jeeps. Allways have a cherokee sitting around let me know if i can help ya out with a hand in installing or just showing or etc. Were located about 1hr from ya.

If your willing to drive to Columbia, I'd be glad to help you out. I've got jacks, jackstands, air tools, hand tools, power tools, etc and I'm great at installing lights, radios, amps, speakers or anything 12 volt.

There's several people near here from the local club that I could probably get to meet at my house to help out on a weekend.
