vin number = engine number

I just got an engine from an ebay auction a couple of days ago and was wondering if there is a way to match the vin number to the engine number to be sure it has the same mileage as the odometer says. Would be easy for someone to just get any ole engine and say yea theres the body it came from check the odo. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
