video head unit...

If you can mount it low enough in the opening it might not block any vents, Not too sure though. By any chance will this headunit be hooked up to chassis cameras? :D

I don't care if it BLOCKS vents, I care if it would HIT the vents (and thus not be able to open fully)...

and yes, you have the right idea, but I have more plans than something simple like that... ;)

ok it matters if it is a late model or a newer one if it is a late model you will need to move the A.C. controls up one where the radio would be.and put the video down where the A.C. was. If it is a newer xj your going to have to do the same thing but it will be a little more difficult because the size diffrence.but if you put it in the stock location on both xj's it will hit the dash lip on the older one and the newer one. hope that helps.I had a 7.5 panasonic in my late model but it got stolen.

i've seen some install kits (especially for GMs) that make teh head unit stick out just a little bit. i think thats due to depth limitations, but maybe a kit like that could be retrofitted for the XJs opening. a little liquid nails and fiberglassing can go a long way.
i've installed 2 pioneer AVIC N2s. fabulous unit. you may want to check that one out as well. last time i looked, abe's of maine had them for the cheapest.
