help fast... vibes!!

i put a 3'' rustys lift(aal) with tcase drop and 3 degree shims on 97xj
but i am still getting vibes in the rear
what else can i do other than sye
also rustys only gave me one lesf spring clamp for each side, i put them on the front side, there are gaps in between the leafs now could that be the problem
also what kind of damage can i do if i let the vibes continue?

The 97+ XJs are more prone to vibs because of the design of the output of the Tcase.
I just about fixed my bout with vibs but I was at 5 1/2 inches of lift almost with no SYE (didnt mean to go this high). Could you take a picture of your driveline? If you can get a shot of your pinion, the driveshaft, and the Tcase output, im sure the experts on the boards can give you some detailed info.

From what ive learned, you want your Tcase output and the pinion at just about paralell with each other. What way do you have the fat end of the shim facing?

i have the fat end to the back i added the shim today after lifting it yesterday it helped alot but i still get vibers over 45mph and if i hit a pot or bump in the road

i just jacked my xj up and put in gear and got under it to see if i could see what was happening and the d.shaft is vib. at the end near the t-case
i need advise...i have to drive this thing tomorrow

Well before you do anything you need to check the angles(w/ an angle finder, real numbers)! Then you can work on shimming, after that it called "SYE kit"..I lift mine the first time after it was 3 months old!Got vibes and "never" got rid of them till I bought 2 SYE kits.Only the JB HD kit worked!

I got same year XJ and kit. It's been several years but if I remember I had vibes only between something like 25 to 35 mph and nothing before or after that. I drove it for a week or so like that until I dropped the t-case... that cured it for me.

Looks like you've tried the two easy and cheap methods that usually work. Time for an SYE.

One thing for sure with our XJs: No two are alike.

If it happens after you hit a bump on the road its most likely your front end. Have you had an alignment yet?You can do one yourself . There is a writeup at gojeep.rockcrawler.com Also, your tracbar is most likely a little short, look at the axle from the front of the jeep and see if its centered in the frame.

should i have redrilled the mounting hole for the tracbar (on the axle end) in order to relocate the trac bar to help line the front axle up
i know two of my friends had to when they installed 3'' bds suspensions but my directions never said to to this

Your toe in and caster are probably more of a source of vibs right now.

Do you have the Dana 35 or Chrysler 8.25 rearend? My 99 XJ has the Chrysler 8.25 and I have been told this model although stronger than the D35, will have steeper angles and thus have a tendancy to cause worse vibes. I believe you have your shims backwards. I have 4 degree shims with the fat side front. This pushes the angle of the rear upward so it's pointing towards the TC output. To fix the problem for good, I went with Advanced Adapters SYE kit and Tom Woods Custom rear shaft. My 99 XJ w/ Rubicon Express 3.5" had the vibes when slowing down around 35 mph. Good luck. -Chris

thanks for the help everyone!!
i got the frontend re-aligned and it turned out the casters were wrong and that solved all my problems

i have my shims with the fat end in the back and it caused my diff to angle up i dont know if that was the right way but it worked.

thanks again for the advise

if you are trying to raise the pinion angle (which i think you are) the thick part of the shim should be in the rear.
