Hey all-

Check out this website...it's pretty darn cool. www.XXXpedition.com ...but don't let the XXX fool you, it's not actually porn. Make sure to go to the "4x4 Galleries" section and check out some great Alaska wheelin' and deep water fording. It's especially cool for me beacuse I've long had designs for a Alcan/Dalton highway trip. Now I can live vicariously through someone else, complete with pictures!

I've wanted to do that too. It's been a dream for several years. Now that I'm retired, I need to do it while I can. Would be nice with some other vehicles!

I'm in!! Wouldrefer to rv up and camp and then hit the trails. Need just a bit more time to finish my re-wire. I get tired of all them electrical fires!!!!!

I have talked about doing this trip for years also. I always wanted to go up when it was open and back down in the winter when it was closed. I would be up for it if it was planned well in advance (Next winter maybe) and had the right group of people/equipment.

Next Summer (Sept/Oct) I am planning on going down to the Rubicon (this has always been my dream and I want to do it before it closes!!) Anyone else interested?

i very well may be moving back down to CA this coming summer if i don't get into UW Nursing for fall. if so, i could offer a place for people to stay in sacramento. i'd definitely be in to run the rubi, as i have never done it myself. RIDDEN ALONG, yes. driven, no. i've wanted to since i was 13

You know I am in for both Rubi and Alaska.

I smell a NAXJA run coming on. Maybe we could hookup with the Sierra Chapter. :)

I would be up for it, if I could talk the wifey into it.

Michael continues to talk about he Rubicon, so I want to go. Give me time to get everything in order.

Lets not forget Moab. How about a group run for the NAXJA Moab trip in October 2006.

I can't take all of these trips in the same year, but one or two would be fun.

I got the latest issue of OffRoad Adventures in the mail and it featured an article about the rig they took up there. Looks like a badass XJ. ORA is free at 4wheel parts. Order a catalog and you automatically get a subscription. Anyway if you want to take a look.

If you actually plan a trip Ill guide it for yah, just moved from Anchorage last summer, also, bring a hoopload of spare parts AK trails will tear you apart and spit you out, plan for a axle snaps, brake line snaps, flats, twil lockers, a winch or 4 or 5 and a good hearty attitude, you'll need it. Drove a TJ on 35's 3335 miles in 4 days to Ogden Ut. Wasnt all that fun.

Thanks for the websites. We would difinietely want some advice from people with experience before we got this all set in stone (and would appreciate yours).

Why do you think that Alaska trails are so much more difficult than what we have in the NW, From what I have seen there is alot of similarity in terrain.

I think to be honest the priority was to spend most of the trip on the way up and way down, not necessarily doing lots of side trips that might be significantly more difficult.

Me and my brother drove the Alaskan Highway last summer. We went up and stayed for 2 weeks camping all over the state, and up the highway. It was a blast. Just make sure you take lots of bug repellant. The damn mesquitos are huge.

Your right Mike the terrain wise is alot like the rainer are, hood area etc. but the (muddy, snot like, tar) is really hard on parts, you may not need much to get in but getting out is a pain. The moose snot is so sticky it puts alot of strain on the drivetrain. Im stuck at work but Ill post up some pcs for you guys of what Im talking about. There is litteral "thunderheads" and "muskeg" all over the higher elevation trails. If you dont know, its floating land, as in grass and little dirt thats on top of a lake.

PS, grew up in WA....
