Vacuum Canister Fitting Size?

My 1997 vacuum canister keeps splitting open the rubber fittings. The first size was obviously too tight and split soon after. The second one fit very easily, sealed properly, but still split eventually. So, what is the proper fitting size for the vacuum canister?

If you're talking about the rubber elbow at the vacuum reservoir, the plastic tube is 1/4" (11mm) OD and so is the nipple on the reservoir.

Can't understand the splitting of the rubber fitting(s).

If you want, you can get 7/32" ID vacuum hose from O'Reilly auto parts and use it in place of the rubber elbow at the reservoir, and other places in that vacuum tube run.

Sounds like a good idea to just cut the plastic tube back into the engine bay and run rubber hose from the canister to the plastic tube. The rubber fittings probably are not good quality.

Buy the hose first so you know how far back you can cut the plastic tube.

Remember - measure once, cut twice...no wait...

A small loop of 7/32" inch rubber hose from the canister to the plastic line worked perfectly! I did not have to cut the plastic line at all. The rubber hose flexes more than the replacement fittings and I have five feet of it stowed in the center console now. :D
