V8 swap into '84?

you need to put a 700r4 tail shaft in the th350 for the adapters to work. also its a real bitch dont do it, unless you plan on grenading the axles. It was the worst mod i ever did, just find one with a 4.0 plenty of power for a cherokee

Granted I don't own an XJ with a sbc in it, but the motor he's talking about won't be that dramatic of an increase in power unless he starts building it.

x2 dont need to sleeve the frame rails really, it never hurts but def. no necessary

The oil pan clearance sucks, you need something like 5-6" of lift to keep the tracbar(i think cant really rememeber) from putting a nice dent in the pan

..."Granted I don't own an XJ with a sbc in it, ",..errr.. okay.."the motor he's talking about won't be that dramatic of an increase in power unless he starts building it-Not quite correct,..read carefully again. If he has an older.1984 Jeep- Cherokee 2.8 liter V-6 engine swapped out for a Chevrolet 350 V-8 it would be a significant increase -On a more positive and informative note this particular swap involving the removal of either the original XJ 2.5 liter or XJ 2.8 liter engine is at this point in time is more commonly done as opposed to for example the Ford 5.0 and is more cost-efficient because of easily available cheap and plentiful parts worldwide and local -Contrary to some of the erroneous and misleading information given out in the above posts many others here at the NAXJA forum have done this swap with good results and great success- Assuming that some of our XJ's are getting quite old and tired out it makes good economical sense to have this as an alternative option-To allay everyone's fears and to address an earlier question/post about the dubious requirement to have some high level of engineering and fabrication skills to do the engine swaps--No,..not really,..this is after all the Modified Tech level,..but one would assume that you have SOME level of mechanical/fabrication proficiency... I repeat this is .not Advanced Engineering or rocket science-
