My newspaper today showed more photos of cars (and SUVs) plowing through water during Rita's passage across FL. Naturally, XJ owners have a decent bug-out vehicle to begin with, but suppose you have a stock XJ and want to add a bit of height. "Floatation" tires aren't going to make the vehicle walk on water, so if you just wanted to install tall tires for fording clearance -- would it be better to use "floatation" tires (the 31x10.50/15 series), which are fairly wide, or would it be better to go with a tall, skinny tire (such as perhaps a commercial truck tire)?

There is still stuff submerged in the water so I would think that some foot print is necessary to crawl over it.

personally I'd go for the flotation cuz its not necessarily gonna float over the water...;) They provide good traction on uncertain surfaces and are designed to "float" over mud and sand.
