i was getting my hp 44 and 8.8 ready for install and was just staring at the 8.8 thinking of what the internal diferences between an hp and a lp so i fliped the caliper brackets welded the vent hole shut and taped a new one on the "bottom" so now its a hp.

anybody tried this. if so any problems

Congratulations, your new axle is now junk. :) The pinion is now on the wrong side of the ring gear, so the wheels will turn the wrong direction. On the up side, you now have four or five reverse speeds, to make up for your one forward speed.

OMG!!

Boy I hope this post was a joke. We used to flip the axles on a 2.5 ton frame only rig and mount a picker system on it to pick up hay bales on the farm It drove and steered like a fork lift. Loved shifting with your left hand.

I read about some axels built like a Ford nine inch that if you put the center section in upside down that would be true. They say you should not flip the axel upside down because of oiling problems so I would add extra lube if nothing else. You will also lose strenght on the ring and pinion. On the rear low pinion is strongest and on the front high pinion is strongest. I bet it works out OK for you. Good luck.

If you flip a complete axle upside down, given the same driveshaft rotation direction, the wheels will rotate backwards. Oiling is the least of the issues.

Well hey,...

This is advanced fab, right?

Will the carrier and ring fit in upside so the ring is on the right side?

Sure.

Anything will fit with enough grinding. :gee:
