========================================

The above is my reply to the author ([email protected]) of the article in URL I referenced. I also included only 4 photos (in case their corporate email system blocks messages that are too large.) Please include a few of your own.

I honestly believe that the author could greatly benefit from a massive email carpet bomb from a great many serious offroaders who wheel our beloved unibody Cherokees. So please pass this message on to your friends and your clubs. You're welcome to use my comments or create your own, but please make sure to include the URL and his scurrilous remark. Needless to say, remove my name, tag line and club affiliations so you can insert your own.

Thank you,

I wish the XJ had a frame, would be nice not to have to do all the extra SBS work and frame stiffiners and etc. etc. etc. . . . just to make the XJ not fold like a taco.

I think most that have put a few years of off roading in to an XJ would agree.

Oh, but I do like Taco's . . . :lickout:

yup, i'm sure if most of us xj'ers had the money we'd start with a fully boxed frame from the get go like an early bronco or a new wrangler...maybe with a turbo diesel...or one of those new ford ecoboost motors... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r4Pi00oBv3Q so many wants
I'm getting real tired of these damn unibodies, this will most likely be my last unibody build.

I bet more people would build a tube frame chassis, basically a uni-body. Why waste all that effort trying to bolt a separate body and frame together? Even shitty F-Toys can't wait to ditch the body and embrace the superior XJ heritage. :laugh3:

Heres why i love the XJ:
AW4, I6 with all the balls you need, and XJs are cheap and parts are plentiful. cheap parts on forums, craigslist, and junkyards, and seems like there is more than enough aftermarket support.
Unibody is narrow, and fairly light, especially compared to bigger full size rigs. i think the lighter body and 4.0 is a nice combo for not needing to make up as much power.

they are a great way to get into wheeling , you can get one for around a 1000, do a cheap used lift, cheap used 31s-33s, and maybe a lunchbox locker, and do alot.
then upgrade parts as you see they are limiting your wheeling, like it dont droop enough-longer better shocks, longer brakelines, trim control arm mounts , etc. both wheels are spinning going up slick granite or whatever- buy a locker or two(best bet is buying a set of used axles that are geared and locked, way cheaper , and you get gears...)

i hate the fact that my yota is gutless and has IFS, ill being going to 5.29s in the 4runner just so i can go uphill on the freeway with my 31s, , and that my willys is carburated, drums all around, and a 3 speed that maxes out at 55mph, or that all of the scouts i used to wheel were carburated. always had trouble on inclines with the carbs. only pro of a carb: you can rebuild em in like 20 mins, i always keep a tach and dwell meter and a carb rebuild kit in the willys ...

ive seen even full frame rigs still have stress cracks on the frame near the steering box and even they still need steering box bracing around the frame. so if they are bracing their frame too, is the only difference the fact they can install a body lift and we cant?

what serious offroader would wheel a 2011 explorer anyway? what serious ofroader would wheel an explorer period? other the 8.8 with discs, i dont see alot to be liked there...
