seems to me our mission of establishing a democracy in iraq is going down the crapper. however much of the blame has to go to the locals who don't seem to appreciate our efforts. same goes for the lebanese. if they want terrorists in their town, and subsequently get bombed, then the old saying may apply," if you sleep with dogs you will get fleas". this whole region is screwed up, possibly beyond our repair. having said that, it's a good thing we didn't quit in WWII, because we might be speaking german and eating nothing but rice.
 
Democracy was never a mission in the first place.

No blame goes to the locals, they didn't want this in the first place.

Leave the Lebanese out of this, they are a target of convenience right now.

The region was always 'screwed up' beyond the ability for antithetical outsiders to repair.

American efforts in WWII were not why the war was won.


There, that should be good for a controversy...

First off, depends on which portion of iraq, the kurds are doing a nice job of cleaning up, they make short work of dissidents doing bombings. I understand from a couple of my friends your life expentancy is very short once you have been identified and not from the govt either, ahmed average takes care of business, he wants no bombs killing his kids in school or his wife at the market.

You are right about the sleeping with dogs, if I was in lebannon I'd get as far north as I could go and let the IDF level it...

As for the sunni vs shiite thing, they all belong in padded rooms, any religon that teaches, encourages and pushes killing for god needs to be stamped out and eradicated. Maybe get all the innocents out of baghdad, those who want peace then use a neutron at about 10,000ft, wait a couple weeks and come back in and bury all the marytrs... then follow one city at a time... bet one would be enough, maybe two for good measure.

Wow! That is a great job of stirring the pot. Way to go!

1. when the locals get education, they will be better off. Oppressed and uneducated sucks. Just look at Canada.

2. Sorry, they seemed to somehow elect a Hezzie party with a militia. The same ones that hide behind women and children to fire off their rockets. I have seen some great links on some theories. Amazingly, none *yet* blame the French or Canada. :)

3. Agreed. It is, and always will be shit.

Perhaps not but it easily cut the amount of time dealing with Nazi and Japanese Imperial ineptitude by half. The Nazi V2s would have made it all a real mess.

Alternatively, if the Yanks didn't go into the War, Stalin could have rolled all through the Hebrides to the Aleutians[sp] given enough time watching everyone else wear themselves out. I would say by year 8-9 he would have made his play. Millions of Russion bodies jamming the Channel being blocked by (likely) millions of Can bodies. Don't forget how Canada was looked at by England back then (raw resources and armed cannon fodder).

Sometimes people forget there were three big time psychopaths involved in that incident. We got lucky that Hitler was stupid enough to attack Russia when he did. We also got lucky that Roosevelt felt he needed to take on the Germans as well as the Japs. Given his previous history before that I speculate he could have just as easily gone against the Japs only until Stalin was a BIG problem.

Explains why France is sympathetic to the cowardly actions of the Hezzies elected by the Lebanese. Go figgure. :flame:

I hope that Israel blast the fawk out of the hezzies. In fact, I would not be sad if they blasted the nuke sites in Iran (suppliers to the Lebanese terrorists) and pop a shell or two to Syria. It is very obvious that Iran and Syria are using the Lebanese, and they fell for it and voted the fanatics in.

So, when we talk of "sense" and "same side", it seems clear what side Lebanon is on, no? I mean they voted the crazies in to office, knowing full well what they represent and how they started.

You may be right about them using Lebanon, it suxors. Saying they knew what they voted and represented is to say all they are is a terrorist group is just wrong, but this is not the place to debate that.

I knew I'd lose most of ya when I said me and beej had any sense:D

Do not even try that. They knew. We all knew. The Hezzies goal and foundation is no secret. If people claim they did not know, they are fooling themselves. Sorry, but the Hezzies goals and mode of operation is and was well known.
