Uneeded Engine Wiring, Hoses, Etc.

Ok, I have a 1990 Jeep Cherokee Laredo 4x4 with 4.0L and Automatic. I am going to be pulling the engine for a complete rebuild soon and wanted to know a few things. As you all know, there are a lot of things cluttering up the engine compartment. What all can be removed safely? I want to keep all my power accessories and A/C but just want to clean up all the clutter. I will be removing any smog and pollution and assume there are some less know things related that could also be removed. Any ideas or help will be greatly appreciated.

I think A/C and all the power stuff is most of the clutter(but I may be wrong). I have a 90 as well to which I will be doing the same, but I WILL be removing all power stuff and A/C.

On a 4.0L w/Renix computer, I wouldn't recommend removing any of the hoses or sensors. They all have a reason. With newer engines, it is an old wives tail that removing the smog stuff will make it run better and get better mileage. The sensors allow the engine to run at the best operating parameters, thus emitting less polution. As for vacuum hoses, the only ones that are there are to purge the crankcase or to vent the gas tank. The secret to performance is to make sure there are no vacuum leaks and that all the sensors are working correctly.

By the way, it is against the law to remove the polution stuff. Even if you state does not have emissions checks, its a federal law.

I'm on my second 1990 4.0 swap, and I really don't see a lot that can be removed, may be relocated, but not removed....

If parts are not really needed, do you think that the Factory would have spent the money to install them?
