Ultra 4 EMC Build

IIRC the firewall has to be 2" taller than the fuel cell. ...its in the rules there somewhere.

The rules do say something about not being allowed to bash or notch the tunnel/floor, if you were to get a winning posiition you could lose the win for it and be DQ'd.

Our door bar smooshes into the seat, and hits the door. I can probably get you some pictures if you need.

Are you cutting your doors down? I would absolutely suggest doing so. We didn't last year, and will be doing it before next year. Both times that I had to get out of the car, the door was blocked by rocks on the trail and I had to climb out the windshield. XJ windows are small and its very difficult to get out that way. If you were disabled for any reason, someone would have a very hard time getting you out of the car through the stock window opening or out the windshield over the steering wheel.

I do believe it is stated in one of the options (for me it was this way due to my design), that the firewall must extend 4" above (maybe it was 2" Cal, I dont remember exactly) the top of the cell, if it is under shoulder hieght? Its been almost a year now since my design was laid out, so that is just what I remembered.

As for wrap around belts, if your going to that horiz cross bar, that sure looks to be Way to low?

The big and tall... I am 6'5 about 290lbs with wide shoulders etc.. I was avle to make mounts to mount my corbeau tall race seats and still maintain at least 4" head room, WIth a helmet on. And thats with a Full interior cage, no jungle gym above my jeep, all in it.

Door bars, We fit ours in fine, yes tight...

If rear mounted fuel cell is higher than driver’s shoulder height, a firewall between the driver and the fuel cell must extend at least 2” above the top of the fuel cell

Mine is below my shoulders, which there is no spec for.

There must be a substantial crossmember and firewall between the fuel tank and the occupants.
Define " substantial ". If you do, than you need to have a spec listed. It's those grey area rule's again.

The body inside cannot be modified but I can notch anything for roll cage tubing....

A seat mount is not part of roll cage tubing though..

Also, if you ever want to upgrade to an atlas, you need every bit of room down there. cant do it and notch the floor for the seat.

substantial is more then tin foil and enough that the driver feels safe. If you think your safe with 24ga sheet then so be it. I felt safe with 14ga.

I didnt have to even dent the floor for my seat mounts. I plated the tunnel in two spots and ran 1" tube over to the cage tube and mounted tabs horiz to get the seat down Low.

You will need to close back up that slot for the B pillar cross down low though.

It will be 16ga. I believe, have to see what I have in storage. Lower tube will get covered, just not that far yet.

With my seat just sitting in there and against the door frame the mount lands on the tunnel pushing it way up off the floor. I'll have to get picks of it some time.

It's tube and attached to the rest of the cage, lol. Like I said, grey area's which is why I'm waiting on an answer before I do anything. I look at it this way, there's no competitive advantage to it and it's much safer than leaving the seat high and bashing my head on something.

No Atlas for me, maybe a 300 down the road but yes still big and needs all that room, I agree.

.

It also depends on what seat you use. I picked a seat that was Very accomedating I think. Look at the design and the foot print. that helped alot.

Not to mention they were willing to sponsor us, to boot.

As for competitive advantage, yes it is, but yes it is also a safety issue. Only, you Can be safe with a different selection of seats or design, so IMO they are right in not allowing the body to be modified for individual preference as to what seats they run.

Oh and I do see your door bars being of a more difficult fab. being that your B-pillar is so far inboard. I contoured the b-pillar out to the stock b-pillar and that made for a easier fitment I would think.

Lots of good info here. Im planning on entering the 2013 KOH EMC race as well. I race W.E. Rock Dirt riot as of now but looking forward to the jump to 4600 class. About door bars/side im pact bars are we allowed to ditch the doors and run tub along the outside of the B pillar and use panels along with window nets? That was my plan as my seats are wide and the doors now and know i cant get tube in there to save my life hence going outside hugging the B pillar being tied in to the A pillar and C pillars with panels as "body skins"

You have to have some kind of door, be it OEM or a Tube door, but it must open, close and latch in some fashion.

The latches can be bolts with nuts, but they ahve to exist and be capable of being opened.

So tube doors with some panels it is thanks for the info

He was trying to get it done for the Rausch Creek KOH qual race, but his parts didn't arrive in time, and he basically ran out of time before the race. He is still working on it though, I'll send him a text and get him to update the thread.

Was there a anoucment or something about the EMC 2013?

He keeps speaking of "Qualifing" for it. We only had I think 12 stock class rigs this past year. I Highly doubt that grows to 50 or 60, so qualifing should not even be concerned, yet. Have to see how this class goes. I for one will Not be racing in 2013. I loved the experience, but with Ultra4 not giving after the race coverage at all, and only focusing, entirely, on the unlimited class, its hard for me to justify to ALL MY SPONSORs the 20K in parts they gave. The EMC class isnt even offering a DVD or even Coverage on the KOH 2012 DVD. Well I am Sure transamerica (Shittybilt, G2, procomp, RE) will get coverage.
I loved the experience and would do it all again if I had the choice, but once was enough. I am just lucky I still have a house and a wife after all the $$$$$$ I spent out of pocket and the time away from family to built.

Race on player...

Says who?

The EMC is going to be on the KOH 2012 DVD. In fact it is already on the 2012 KOH DVD. Doesnt get any more from the source than this. ;)

And it isnt biased to Smittybilt, Procomp, etc.

removed so not to derail a good thread.

given the choice, i'm going to go with what dave cole and heavy metal concepts say over a facebook thread. ;)

Shannon said they couldnt afford it and that we were Not the ones everyone went to watch and that the money is in the unlimited.

So please tell me I am wrong... I cant justify to my sponsors, any parts/$$ if theres no after the race promoting of my class of choice.
I will take this back channel since I am "Never Happy" per dave or shannon.

I made a decision to include the EMC in the KOH DVD, so theres at least a 5 minute segment or so of it in there (I will need to check on length, its at the beginning). If Shannon/Dave told you that, I assume it was early on before I started working on it all, so they probably didnt know at the time.

There are some cool shots from it, not to mention helicopter footage, so I think it would be a waste not to include, and its always good to help out the racers, even the "little guy" haha.

With that said, if Matt doesnt get back in here and start updating his build thread again, I am going to go troll his facebook soon to get things rolling hahah
