Turd Bomb, a pavement bound MJ project.

can you say vibrations?

solid trans mount are nice for shifting and power transfer but not for comfert but i don't think thats the main concern with this project

yeah that's exactly what i was thinking.

I'll at least paint the piece of tubing so it doesn't look all bubba-joe'd up.

Your worried about that being bubba-joe'd up when your putting a flatbed on a street rig?

keep the updates comin! sweet looking play-toy!

Funny...:spin1:
I'm not putting a big ol' utility flatbed on it that has an upright bar and drops way down in the back. I'm just going to make a short, low profile bed with a couple dynamic angles on the back similar to what I did on my XJ bumper.

probably with cleaner welds though...

Whatever, dude - you and I both know that is a sexy-ass bumper.
could use some extended mounting points though if those D rings are gonna be used

Looks like a fun build. One question though? Why the boost gauge?
Options, he he. Still not sure if I'm gonna turbo it.

And yossarian, it does have extended mounting points. That's what you see going back on the frame, they go back past the first crumple zone. I think 5 bolts per side, total.

This is a perfect example of a simple innocent DD thrown to the wind for all the bells and whistles. I also can't wait to see how that things tears up the pavement. Awesome job on the build and that's one slick looking bumper.

Yea, didnt think about it being two wheel drive. Tons of space. Also, im with the "dont put a flat-bed on it" group. Regardless, its an awsome build.

Too late on the bed, already sold the stock one.
Here's the picture that made me decide to put a flatbed on it.

I don't know if I'll make the sides that tall, but I really like the bed. Also, I can build a bed for cheaper than I could slick down the dents and have the other one painted. And I'm going for a "what the hell is that thing?" kind of reaction.

Just do us a favor and post up a vid of it laying down some stripes :D

got to second the thumbs down on the pavement bound flat bed (unlifted? street tire equipped?) MJ But it'll still be interesting :) I'd love to see one nice Street build where someone does the MJ justice.

Think muscle truck with 17" or 18" wheels and somewhat small sidewall (but not 255/45) BFG AT KO's not all bling, but street performance oriented... The AT's being a homage to the off road heritage... Pop a stroker in and a turbo or supercharger and watch the honda kiddies jaws drop when they see what TORQUE means. Sure they might catch up if they have a good turbo setup... and an 8th mile of clear road wind it up on. But they'll see nothing but tailgate "JEEP" light to light.

Maybe something like mine but lowered a little...

and something better than the weezy old Renix I have under the hood)

I'd like to see the full Beijing front on a lowered MJ, 4.6 on it with our without the blower...
Maybe someday...

your woodgrain stuff just showed up on comancheclub. In a box of stuff being sold in miami.
Hilarious. Just hilarious.:dunce:
I can still understand youall's thumbs down on the flatbed street truck, but just wait. It's either flat bed, or tub out a factory bed to fit the tires. I made the right choice.
I don't want to get ahead of myself here (but I'm gonna anyway). This'll be getting black DC1 wheels, likely 16x10. The flat bed is to allow for wide back tires. I'll be cutting off the frame behind the forward leaf spring mounts so that we can change the geometry a little back there, and allow for the 4 link.

Like I've said, I'm getting ahead of myself, but it's in my nature to plan the entire project out before I move on it. The next step is to build the support for the radiator, then I'm pulling the engine, tranny, and radiator back out. Next will be to pull the fuel lines and rear brake lines, clean up the engine wiring, and degrease the underside of the truck, as the original engine was blowing so much oil out the top that it's caked under the truck. While I'm doing this, the engine will go to my guy Garrett at Heartland Offroad to get pulled apart and inspected. I bought it rebuild/used, so I can only assume that the guy cut every corner. New cam, lifters, and likely pistons are on the list. I probably won't have too many progress updates before the end of the year, since we're focusing on paying off some bills right now (so that I can spend more on the MJ later!!!). I'll mostly be doing the 'free' stuff right now, like pull the interior and replace it with the black stuff, the core support, and stiffening up the uniframe with plate steel with holes in it (like I read in a jeep speed article a long time ago) and getting the thing cleaned up all around.

I have mine lowered/leveled about an inch right now, looking ot go down another 2" around January. The Beijing front, except the bumper, is on the boat right now, hoping for early december delivery. I want a 4.7 in it, hooked up to maybe a munci 4speed. I have a ford 9" for the rear, unless I can find an MJ 44. I am the same place Hawk is right now, clearing out bills and debt so life will be a little easier.

I have a picture build thread going on right now in the pictures forum.

In my searching, I found that the real values in Muncie 4 speeds was in their numbers matching. The guys I talked to said that it wasn't that great of a transmission, including my dad, who's built plenty of cars, and my gunsmith that used to keep an extra muncie in the trunk of his Chevelle when he was younger.
Something about the cases being weak and the bearings would start whining.

I have a guy in new york with a few like mine, if you want his number.
