TTB in a XJ

I like to go fast over whoops but still want 4 wheel drive. Do you think this would possible? Or is swapping in a TTB not a good idea?

If you were making a two-wheel-drive pre-running XJ with a twin-traction beam setup (out of a Ranger?), that'd be one thing, but I don't think trying to swap in a 4x4's TTB setup is a good idea at all.

i
i have been considering that same thing spending lots of time on some dezertboards researching proper setup for this sytem i think i can pull it of however i am still not ready to try this just yet so i am going to use a solid axle on this truck and pick up another one for the ttb

if you drive it on the street I don't think I would. I had a bronco with the TTB and 6" of lift and it was sloppy. Had a buddy put a solid axle in a very similar bronco and it was 100 time better. Better highway, tighter feel, more stable. The TTB isn't one of those front ends that liks to be messed with a whole lot. there are tons of Bronco/f-150 guys swaping solid axles into their rigs to trash the TTB, sounds like you're going in reverse taking out your solid axle for a TTB front.

i used wheel a f/s bronco, TTBs can actually be built decently strong...the shafts suck though. i like the idea but would imagine a 2WD conversion with a hella slinky/droopy Ranger setup in front would be sick.

I've seen really nice travel I beams under Rangers AND fit under some Toyotas...

Hey, I used to live in the Cali desert...

actually theres companies that make the twin i beam kits for other trucks

Out of all the tires to go fast with I have never considered Hawgs on of them. :D

I can see what your looking for but the only drawback I can see is fab time. If your into it then do it.

The pics Jason posted are a good example. If you compare the stock beams with the ones on the coil over rig you can see the changes they made. If you have much lift it may require a complete redesign of the the stock beam.

I have seen a few companies that sell aftermarket 4x beam with some redesign already done, maybe they would work.

yea those are not mine just got the pictures off the web the first pic just to show a nicely done ttb setup the second one is center mounted a arm on a grand 2wd but impressive the ground hawgs were the only tires i had with the right wheel close to a 37" tire wore down 40''s i was just pondering things to see how it all measured up put the 30 back under it to make some long arms then i might find a ranger ttb to see how it fits

While the fab work on that TTB is incredible, the STOCK steering is really not cool. Think really bad bump steer at high speeds... That TTB setup needs a complete crossover steering, but not like the solid axle guys. The desert guys use an extra pivot opposite the steering box and by the steering box, and links running between the pitman arma and the oppsite pivot, from the opposite pivot to the drivers side steering knuckle and the pivot by the steering box, then from that pivot to the pass. side steering knuckle. The pivots match the mounting locations for the AXLE pivots so geometry remains the same throughout suspension travel. Meaning, NO bump steer at desert racing speeds. But expect for a shop to have your truck for weeks and to spend $3500 and up...

Roger (which is why my Ranger will be getting a solid axle someday...)

PS, would love to see more pics of that ZJ...

this is the only other picture of the grand i got if i can remember where i found it i w
ill look for more and this is the steering you are discribing i am still studying this ttb thing but i have learned the steering setup is different for equal leangth pictured here and unequal leangth as the ttb picture

my bad that is not the setup you were talking about i cant find the right pic or do anything else right so i will try again later
