Trouble Shooting suggestions

Hey Guys -
Here's my issue - 1988 Jeep Comanche - 4.0 - 5 speed - 350,000 miles with an engine rebuild sometime in its past.

The last couple of weeks, I've been having problems getting it started. I can crank, crank and crank it, and it won't start. I have been able to just bump the ignition, and it would fire up. Up until this last weekend. Went out to start it up and move it, and now it won't fire at all. It will turn over, but just won't fire up.

I checked the fuel pressure - 39 pounds, seems to have plenty of gas.
I pulled a plug, and it is wet, so it seems to be getting fuel.
With the plug pulled, and turning it over, no spark.

So - any suggestions :lecture: on where to start trouble shooting. Should I check the distributer first, then maybe the coil?

Should I just conclude its the CPS?

Is there anyway to check the CPS, or do you just replace it. From what I've read, it can be a pain to get to.

I don't know if the CPS has ever been replaced.

Thanks in advance for any help.

You could try unplugging and plugging back in the CPS. Sometimes that works. I think the CPS is a good bet. Be sure you buy a high altitude CPS.
