So my roommate will be taking his KTM 450 to Stonyford to ride the weekend of 10/16/2010 so I decided to tag along and camp and maybe do a little wheeling. I understand that the off road portion is pretty easy my boss says other wise. Which leads me to to believe its pretty easy stuff because the guy is always full of shit. So it would be mostly camping anyone interested in a little wheeling/camping trip for that weekend.

Hit me up and let me know if anyone is interested. Jason

Stonyford is a town but there is an OHVA just West of the town, also referred to as Stonyford. I don't have a lot of info on it and have never been there but there is a link below.

It is in Mendocino National Forest and there are a ton of roads to explore on bike or jeep. Most is very easy from what I hear. Look up Letts Lake. It's in the area and is a great campground!

Cow Mountian is fun for both, although it is split bike on one half jeeps on the other.

Ive been to Stonyford, you can camp there and they have a huge array of dirtbike trails. The place is nuts for single track. If you look on Sieera Chapter Rigs I think I posted pics of my Jeep in the snow at Stonyford. You can also connect to lots of other fire roads and make your way in to lake Pillsbury. There are a few good trails there but its nothing crazy. A big problem wheeling there is you drive up a unmarked trail and eventually you pop out the other side and it turns out that its a dirt bike trail. Haha I like it there but you just have to pay attention to other people hauling ass on dirt bikes, never had any problems though. They also have some small lakes you can fish at and you can go in the boonies and shoot if your into that.

Yeah I am looking for something scenic, a little challenging some place I can camp Saturday and enjoy whats left of summer. Something hopefully within 100 to 200 miles of the bay area.

Yeah, Stonyford is pretty nice. I wouldnt say its "scenic" like other places are but its the outdoors and its nice. There are some pretty high roads on the edge of the mountains there that make for some killer views. Stonyford isnt far but it takes a good 4 hours to get where the camp sites are and stuff. You drive up 80 to 505 then take 5 north for about 45 minutes but the long part of the drive...which is about another hour is driving west over the mountains into the Stonyford OHV area. Honestly its worth a trip. Im not going to say its the greatest place ever but I enjoy it a lot each time I go. Ask your self would I rather drive 4 hours to Stonyford or 4 hours to the Sierras, I say the choice is clear. I love the Sierras so they are my first choice. The cool thing about Stonyford is there are some steep hills and a few sketchy things but all in all it doesnt compleatly beat the crap out of your junk, oh!!!!But the manzanitas frickn scratch the crap out of your paint...although it helps if you stay off single track trails. lol

Sounds like it will work for me. I will be the only 4 wheel drive in my group really just going to camp and explore. I would really rather do something more challenging but being that I am the only 4 wheel drive within my group of friends its probably better that its easier stuff.

Thanks for the info

Like I mentioned check out Letts Lake for camping. You will not be disappointed.
