Treating Road Rash Type Injuries

I have a pretty big patch of abraised skin on my cheek bone, not deep, but all the dermis is removed.

Lets just say I woke up Sunday morning with this injury :cheers::cheers:

Whats the standard treatment for such a thing?

Also, how can I prevent scaring? After all, I gotta keep my pretty face so I dont lose out on my future male modeling career right?

Id probably disinfect it (my favorite is hydrogen peroxide, but apparently some think it hurts) and then use neosporin on it.

I am however NOT a doctor and probably not the kind of person you want injury care advice from, so take this info with a grain of salt unless someone else agrees...

Irrigate it, keep it covered with dry dressing and ointment. Not doing anything with it, just letting it dry and scab will be the biggest chance for scarring.

i got me some road rash on me wrist. scarred up pretty good. but I used a product called "second skin" made for burns. once its on there the pain goes away until you take it off. i keep a box lying around now. comes in handy for most any kind of topical pain.

Once you are sure that there is no infection, go to your local drug store and get some of this:

http://www.mederma.com/

Start applying as directed and plan on it for the next 90 days. My wife severely burned her arm with the Iron (Ironing board tipped over) and two years later the scars are gone. Doctor said she will have the scars for life but they are gone.

Use it and keep using it.

Rinse with whiskey, or if you have any shine layin around that's even better. Cover with duct tape and be done with it.

stop doing stupid things that cause injury such as that

Ian, were you chained up in Kens yard again? :D You should probably not blackout so you remember how you wiped out and can tell us the story!

I had some bad road rash on my forearms and in the hospital the nurse yanked the bandaging off. She apparently didn't know what was under it and just thought she was changing bandages. I guess the new skin healing had bled and scabbed onto the bandaging and she ripped it all off. My doctor had a yelling fit when he came in to see what was going on. So, don't rip any bandaging off, it sucks.

Keep it between you and aaron, I want nothing to do with this freaky shit...

Next time wear knee pads and you won't get carpet burn.
